Derek's passion for wildlife and adventure led to an exciting 6-year career field guiding at private lodges in the Kruger National Park. With trusty camera in hand, he and his guests shared many incredible moments, including close encounters with leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino.

Unable to sit still for too long, one of his favourite things was to head off into the African bush for a jog where he could appreciate the stillness and beauty of nature. In his new home of Cape Town, he still seeks adventure at every turn, whether it be rock climbing, surf skiing or shark cage diving. "Being alone in nature is a liberating experience. I wish that everyone could experience it for themselves", says Derek.

Travel Experience

All over South Africa, as well as Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mauritius. Travel includes Canada, America, the UK, Israel, Germany, France, and the Maldives.
