Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda is Africa’s largest mountain rainforest region and is home to an incredible 13 primate species, including chimpanzees. Built amid the forest canopy, the luxury Nyungwe Forest Lodge echoes traditional safari style but modern steel and glass have been used to create a sophisticated and contemporary edge. Afro-chic décor and neutral tones are accentuated with bright red, and wall-to-wall glass doors draw in endless shades of emerald green from the outside.
Trekking through the deep Rwandan rainforest with a skilled and knowledgeable ranger is an experience akin to none. Spend anything between one to seven hours tracking and observing chimpanzee families, exploring waterfalls, visiting local villages and spotting brightly coloured birds such as the giant hornbill and great blue turaco. The lodge is located on a working tea plantation, with elegant tastings in the tea room, or a visit to the nearby factory offering unique insights into the production of Rwanda’s primary export.
In addition to the breath-taking surroundings, Nyungwe Forest Lodge is equipped with plenty of facilities to stay fit or be relaxed including a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, a small spa and a fitness centre. All suites are air conditioned, and there are two secluded Presidential Suites, one of which has a private Jacuzzi on a viewing deck.
A heated infinity pool peers over the spectacular forest canopy, and the poolside lounge centres on a fire pit for enjoying the views and reliving an exciting day in Nyungwe National Park. For the ultimate relaxation, sink into the Jacuzzi or opt for a soothing treatment at the spa. Local teas are available for tasting in the tea lounge, and the fitness centre is equipped with treadmill, stationary bike and free weights. Shop for gifts and mementos at the boutique, and stay in touch with Wi-Fi at the main lodge. The main lodge is wheelchair accessible.
