Conceived as the splendid ruins of an ancient but mythical African tribe who once supposedly ruled the surrounding Pilanesberg mountains and fertile savannah, The Palace of the Lost City is the premier hotel in the action-packed Sun City resort complex. An easy drive or shuttle from Johannesburg or OR Tambo International Airport, it makes an unforgettable ‘pit-stop’ after a safari or an exciting holiday for honeymooners, couples and even multi-generational families who require ‘something for everyone’.

‘The Palace’, as it is affectionately known, is known for its striking elephant guard of honour who line the drive up to the hotel where a life-sized bronze sculpture of Shawu – one of the Kruger National Park’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ elephants known for their enormous tusks – regally stands. Beyond Shawu rise the domes and towers of the hotel – with views over the classic Highveld landscape – while cascading waterfalls and streams trickle between them. Nearby is the incredible Valley of the Waves, where a powdery, golden sand beach and wave-action pool have been installed in the middle of the African bush. Golfers will enjoy tackling the two 18-hole championship courses (Sun City was the first golf tournament venue to offer a $1-million purse) while all guests will have a ball exploring the resort, which has 25ha of ‘jungle’ gardens, tennis and squash courts, horse riding, mountain biking, volleyball, hot-air ballooning, water sports, children’s activities (Crocodile Farm, Animal Worlds, Teenagers’ Club and a baby-sitting service) and a beauty salon.

Rooms range from Luxury Twins all the way to four magnificent Presidential Suites that boast features like Jacuzzis, saunas, hand-carved Canadian maple and walnut and sweeping views over the Grand Pool. Guests wanting a true slice of privacy should reserve the King Tower for sunset cocktails; situated in The Palace’s Leopard wing, it has awe-inspiring 360-degree views of Sun City – the perfect spot to kick off an intimate wedding reception or celebrate a significant birthday.

Traveller Reviews

  • We had a great time at Sun city and really enjoyed our stay. Firstly thank you for sorting us out when we had the "misunderstanding" around the dates. You behaved professionally and quickly resolved the issue which was much appreciated as it was quite stressful for us. The staff at Sun city were all very helpful especially Joe Hektor, the GROs and the concierge lady (Sorry we didn't get a name) who were all very helpful? Thanks again for a great holiday and would definitely recommend your services as well as Sun city as a holiday destination.

  • Just a quick note to say we had an amazing time in Sun City. The room was fabulous and you could not ask for better service.

    Nancy Sharman, September 2016
  • Your accommodation arrangements for Sun City were wonderful. It is a fantastic place and as I may have mentioned, we were given an upgrade to a much larger suite. We will be sure to use your services next time we travel to Africa (which hopefully will not be too long) and we are very happy to recommend you and your company to our friends and family here in Australia, many of whom are very enthusiastic international travellers. Thank you so much once again for your great service.

  • Special attention was ALWAYS given to us by a gentleman called Mpho Kgosana every time at our breakfasts. My other sisters now want me to organize another trip for us!

  • We were happy to spend our time at Sun City... the place always makes us not want to go back home. Many attractions we could not get to enjoy. The hospitality and humble staff made us feel special and want to come again for the next visit.

    Lanny Kubheka, July 2016
  • It was absolutely fantastic. Everything and everyone were world class. Sun City was surprisingly spotless and so well maintained. The staff were all amazing from the welcoming to registration to food and room cleaners. Someone needs a special pat on the back for staff training. Highly recommend to anyone. Most importantly, my father had a fantastic time.

    Alan Piha, July 2016
  • At The Palace I thought nothing can exceed this experience. We did a lot of activities and we felt totally pampered.

  • Marlee and I booked with Go2Africa.com for the first time to go to Sun City's The Palace and had an amazing experience. Our family came to visit us from the Cape and we decided to re-visit Sun City’s Palace o the Lost City due to our wonderful previous experience. It proved to be the best decision! As before, we were treated like kings and queens. The concierge stood out (Linda and Confidence), Betty, Sanny and Lebogang at breakfast and Alfred by the pool service were amazing. Room service and the maintenance team were also very efficient, effective and friendly. The team organising transport to everywhere were so good! We can highly recommend and loved the zipline experience. The zipline staff and set-up is world class and we would love to return and do that again. Impressive team! The breakfast is outstanding. Overall, an excellent holiday with a feeling of safety in a clean and welcoming environment. Worth every cent. The highlight: Definitely the staff, each and every person had a warm, friendly, helpful and caring countenance in a professional manner!

Berdene van der Lingen, July 2016
  • Our stay was really outstanding, every one of the staff members we had contact with made their best efforts to please us. One fact is worth mentioning: on the last day, we had to have breakfast really early because of our transfer back to the airport. We arrived to the restaurant 5 minutes before opening, and the staff member that met us asked us to wait instead of inviting us to go ahead and have a seat. We found it a bit strange at first, but soon we understood: we were delighted to witness the staff’s singing and dancing to celebrate the start of the working day, which they did exactly in these 5 minutes before opening.

    Armando Farhate, June 2016
  • Thank you for arranging our golf tour! Everything went according to plan.

    Werner Pakendorf, June 2016

We had a excellent time in Sun City, and for sure will go back in the near future. We were lucky with the weather, and the service is very nice at the hotel.
