overview

Motswiri Camp lies on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, an ephemeral waterway that connects the Okavango Delta to the wetlands of the Kwando and Linyanti Rivers. A little-visited and somewhat mysterious region of woodland and open grasslands, it remains a great game viewing destinations in Botswana thanks to year-round water and hundreds of square miles of unspoilt wilderness teeming with wildlife.

Motswiri Camp is a small, environmentally-sustainable camp with five tented suites overlooking water. Largely solar-powered and staffed by guides and managers with many shared years of safari experience, the camp is an ideal destination for discerning travellers looking for a more exclusive Okavango Delta-style experience with a twist: located with access to a huge private concession, this is a camp that specialises in riding and walking safaris as well as canoe adventures. Game drives and motorised fishing excursions are also offered.

A fly-in destination, Motswiri Camp combines well with other similar camps in the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve. The camp welcomes children and has a tent suitable for a family; children 12 and over are permitted to go on horseback and walking safaris.

Dining

Meals are served communally at the main lodge inside or, more often, outside.

Your day begins with early morning tea and coffee served with a biscuit or two at your tent. A light breakfast awaits you before your morning activity, after which you return to a wholesome lunch served with fresh salads and camp-baked bread. Guests may also enjoy a surprise bush brunch, served out in the reserve away from camp and under a shady acacia tree.

A traditional high tea is served before your afternoon activity, which also includes cold drinks and snacks at sunset. Returning to camp via a spot-lit drive, you have time to freshen up and share a few stories with fireside drinks before a 3-course dinner.

Safari Tent

Well spaced for privacy and raised off the ground for superb views from their verandas, the five tents at Motswiri Camp are large and airy, a clever combination of canvas, timber and insect-proof gauze to ensure complete comfort.

Illuminated by solar power, each tent has twins or a double bed and plenty of convenient details like comfortable seating, a writing desk and luggage storage space. The en suite bathroom comes with a shower and flush toilet. One tent is suitable for a family while another is known as the Honeymoon Suite, famous for its outdoor shower that looks out over the Selinda Spillway.

Other rooms

Motswiri Camp operates a fly-camp between April and November, offering a more rustic level of accommodation for the more intrepid safari traveller. Built into the itinerary of a longer walking and riding safari, the fly camp uses bucket showers, long-drop toilets and twin camp beds. Meals are cooked on an open fire.
