overview

Sabi Sabi Selati Lodge is set in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park. Built along the original route of the long-abandoned Selati railway line, this small, intimate camp offers an authentic African safari in a famous Big 5 region. At night, Selati Lodge is illuminated by oil lamps which, combined with the vintage décor and early 20th century train memorabilia, creates a romantic, old-world atmosphere.

The game viewing in the Sabi Sands is world-class, and with the help of your local tracker and experienced ranger you have an excellent chance of seeing all the Big 5 plus rare predators such as cheetah and wild dog. Morning and late afternoon game drives take advantage of the times when animals are most active, and you'll return to camp after sunset drinks via a spotlit drive in search of Africa's fascinating nocturnal creatures.

Dining

For your first meal of the day, the chefs at Selati Camp prepare a typical South African breakfast which includes freshly baked breads, jams and preserves from the region.

Lunch and dinner also comprise excellent cuisine, and meals are served on the decks built over the riverbed, around the roaring fire in the open-air boma or in the charming farmhouse kitchen.

Luxury Suite

Selati Camp is one of the smallest camps in the Sabi Sabi Game Reserve and is made up of only eight luxury thatched suites, each with en suite bathrooms and private alfresco shower.

The beds are draped with romantic mosquito netting and at night the suites are lit with flickering oil lamps (although you can also switch the lights on if they are needed) while the verandas allow you to survey your own corner of Africa in private.

Traveller Reviews

  • We all had a marvellous time on Safari. Sabi Sabi Selati was excellent.

    Paul Marks, July 2010
  • Sabi Selati was equally pleasant, although a little "tame" for us. However, both the accommodation and the staff were wonderful and contributed to a very enjoyable time.

    Michelle Newman, October 2008
  • We had a fantastic time. Probably the most enjoyable experience I've had for years and years.

    Ed Mendelsohn, August 2008
  • It was wonderful with viewing of all the expected game. The rangers were a cut above Hamiltons and seemed less stressed in meeting our expectations. The highlights were many leopards and lions along with a lion kill and much giraffe bone gnawing.

    Frank Brow, April 2008
