There are four restaurants at the Pinewood Village Beach Resort for you to choose from: the Bahari Restaurant is where to go for sumptuous breakfasts and dinners, the Tamu Snack Grill serves up lunches and afternoon tea while the Jahazi Bistro is an alternative lunch spot. Guests who want casual barbecues and themed dinners should head for the Peponi Restaurant.

Meals can be enjoyed in the privacy of your room or outside on the veranda, and can be personalised: arrange to have your own private chef on hand to cater to your requirements and tastes of the day. Each suite is equipped with all the necessary culinary equipment that your personal chef may need.

Other Room Types

A perfect option for families would be the ground floor Suites which have a separate living space for an extra bed and are nearly double the size of the Deluxe Rooms. The bedroom is en suite with a double showerhead, toilet and basin. Off the living area is a small kitchen which comes with the services of a personal chef, and through sliding doors there is access to a large veranda with baraza and garden views.

Located on the first floor are the Executive Rooms. These 45 sq metre rooms have a balcony that offers views of the ocean while the en suite bathroom features a toilet, basin and double showers. Other features of the rooms include air-conditioning and internet access. The ground floor Executive Suites have a separate lounge area which leads out onto a large veranda and offers spectacular views of the ocean.

A personal chef is on hand to help with dinner in the suite's kitchen on those nights you don't want to cook or make use of a restaurant. The bedroom is en suite and has a double shower with separate bath.

The beach was a great place to relax. Because we were in a suite, we were able to have dinner cooked in the room by our own personal chef. The beach itself was beautiful, but any time we stepped foot off of hotel grounds, we were harassed by beach boys, which was a bit disappointing, as we just wanted to play in the water without constant interruption. However, overall, we were pleased with our stay.

Pinewood was an unexpected surprise in luxury. I didn't know we had a suite reserved. And with the suite you get a personal chef for dinner. Nice. We took a taxi into Mombasa one day. Mombasa was about what I expected for Africa, but not in a bad way. I'm trying to break into photography, having misspent my youth learning the art only to give it up for my erstwhile profession. Back at it, I can only say that Mombasa is a photographic gold mine.

We finished our time in Kenya with four days at Pinewood Beach Resort on Galu Beach. I can't say enough about this place. Beautiful surroundings. Very private, very remote. Great staff. Great food. We took the executive room with a sea view and it was worth the extra cost. This was the perfect relaxation, and we even managed a day-long dhow trip where we snorkeled, watched dolphins and lunched on Wasini Island, a slice of life worth experiencing.

The pinewood village was also very nice. We were suprised by how far south it actually was. I remember staying two resorts down from the "forty thieves bar" the last time I visited and we used to walk there every night, however there was no chance of that happening here. The food and customer service was again superb. The beach was very tranquil and on this occassion the touts were far less annoying than 6 years ago. I took my wife to the cave restuarant, mainly to take her to forty thieves afterwards and the whole evening was excellent again. perhaps something to suggest to future customers. All in all, the holiday was brilliant. Personally I think it was very wise to avoid Nairobi as much as possible, the wait in that airport was probably the worst part of it.
