overview

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is built on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, and its natural stone and ivy-covered walls blends in with its surroundings. The lodge has taken the cave paintings of Olduvai Gorge as its main décor inspiration, with all the interiors filled with African artifacts and frescos.

Enjoy game drives on the crater floor - home to an impressive wildlife and birdlife - or enjoy a guided hike with a picnic across the Serengeti plains or among the nearby volcanic mountains of the Crater Highlands.

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge also offers historical and cultural tours to nearby Olduvai Gorge - the site of one of the most interesting palaeolithic finds in recent history - or to one of the local Maasai villages to meet the community.

After a long day you can enjoy a herbal massage at the lodge, browse the African wildlife library, or simply sit with a drink and enjoy the sunset over the crater.

Traveller Reviews

  • Ngorongoro just amazing and to us the best - we saw the Big 5 in no time at all and the bottom of the crater is just so diverse. We had an afternoon storm come through and you could smell the rain wetting the dry soils. It was so intense. Top spot and lodge our favourite as well.

  • The Serena at Ngorongoro Crater was quite nice.

    Bob Atwell, March 2011
  • Really nice. They were beyond our expectations. We have very nice memories from our trip and many fun anecdotes. Ngorongoro for the lions. It was a dream come true.

    Nilda Colon, September 2010
  • We also loved the accomodations. They were beautiful, both the lodges themselves and the locations.

    Kathleen Dianne Speaks, September 2010
  • Ngorongoro Serena was a large place also but the position over looking the crater made up for the size. Staff were friendly & food & service good.

    Avalon Lister, September 2010
  • I thought their rooms, food, service and entertainment were just the right touch to introduce us to Africa.

    Malcolm Irving, January 2009
  • Just got back from our trip. What a wonderful experience - the Serena Experience was just amazing - enjoyed the Lodge at the Crater

    Audrey Lobo, January 2008
  • Our highlight of the 2 counties visited was Tanzania, where we found the people very welcoming and the scenery hard to match. We had an excellent travel guide who provided both insight into all aspects of Tanzania from it's people, culture, animal and plant life. We felt very secure in his ability to move us safely from one area to the next. Accommodations where better than expected. We especially enjoyed Ngorongoro Crater.

    William Strain, January 2008
