Situated in the Aberdare National Park, The Ark is an elevated lodge offering a very different safari experience to Kenya's more famous savannah parks and reserves. Uniquely designed to resemble the Biblical Ark, this comfortable lodge gives visitors the chance to discover the forests of Aberdare, home to rare and shy forest animals such as bushbuck, giant forest hog, Sykes' monkey, leopard and bongo as well as more recognisable creatures like elephant, rhino and buffalo.

The Yasabara waterhole and salt-lick is within viewing distance of the lodge and often attracts rare animals, not to mention herds of elephants. Here floodlights allow for all-night viewing of game while a buzzer alarm in each cabin alerts guests when an interesting animal appears in the vicinity.

Balconies and desk lounges offer superb views while game drives into Aberdare National Park are also available.

In addition the Ark offers sports bar facilities as well as a lounge with a fireplace and comfortable leather settees.

Dining

The main dining room has long, softly lit tables with the far side of the split-level room featuring a glass wall through which you can view the dense forest beyond. The menu at The Ark is a cosmopolitan combination of European and Kenyan cuisine made with fresh local produce. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are a set menu affair.

Standard Room

The Ark has 60 guest rooms that are all en suite with a shower, bedside lamps and carpeted floors to ward off the evening and morning chill. Cabins are also provided with water flasks and glasses, hot water bottles and extra blankets.

From the comfort of your cabin you can enjoy views of the surrounding forest or watch animals at the famous waterhole below.
