Situated in the exclusive Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge overlooks one of the reserve's largest lakes where wildlife is often observed having an early morning or evening drink. The lodge has been built into the surrounding environment making it almost invisible to the wildlife gathering at the nearby lake thus giving you an unparalleled game viewing experience right from the lodge itself.

Morning and evening game drives are conducted in an open Land Rover in the company of a professional guide. Optional guided walking safaris are also offered. Visit Dixie, a small Shangaan village, for a special opportunity to meet the local people and learn more about their African customs and way of life. Relax between wildlife-viewing experiences in the lodge's library where you can read up on the species you may have spotted. After a day of adventure, indulge in an authentic African massage in the privacy of your suite.

Traveller Reviews

  • Chitwa Chitwa was very welcoming, the staff were excellent as were the food and the game drives. The only criticism was that the fabric of the lodge felt quite tired, the bathroom in particular was quite old and in need of a refurb.

  • Chitwa Chitwa - Amazing experience here. Claudia and Leon were great managers and always around in case you needed anything. Claudia even arranged for us to visit the Hodespruit endagered species center on our way to the airport. We really enjoyed the experiences provided here, and Chitwa went above and beyond: we were provided with a private "honeymoon meal" one night with complimentary sparkling wine, the staff covered our room in rose petals, candles and drew a bubble bath one night, on another night we were seated with two other couples from different countries, and on another night the lodge hosted a traditional brai and we were even provided traditional Afrtican attire. We really liked all of the attention to detail they had. The only thing we found a little odd was the decor - there were a ton of bones. Our guide Neil was also very good. Chitwa, although a little cluttered with African artifacts , felt warmer and made us feel like we were participating in a fun adventure as opposed to merely staying in a very fancy location. Chitwa the sightings seemed to be more interesting, we saw four leopards and only a few giraffes and wildebeest at Sabi Sands (Chitwa).

  • Chitwa Chitwa was amazing. We loved the entire experience and had so much fun! We met some great people and our accommodations were lovely. The guides were great and it was a beautiful lodge. We were able to see the big 5.

  • Chitwa Chitwa was not only fantastic but the highlight of our trip. The house was among the nicest places that we have stayed at throughout our years of family travel. If you have another family to place, I would have no hesitation to recommend it. The house was only recently completed in May so everything was pristine with modern decor. The private butler, private vehicle were both worth the money, as you had suggested. With children, I think that two nights (4 game drives) is exactly right. I'm not sure that we would have wanted any more game drives. The game viewing was spectacular. The service was perfect . The food was wonderful. Chitwa Chitwa was an excellent suggestion.

  • Chitwa Chitwa was very nice and luxurious and with terrific food but for animal viewing, and for being in nature, we preferred the self-drive.

  • It was a wonderful experience : the game drives and staff were great.

  • Overlooking the water hole is lovely. The bar and pool area provided an ideal spot from which to view the birds and any game that wandered down to the water. Our rooms were very comfortable with all amenities, one or two hiccups with the hot water which were eventually sorted out. Our ranger ensured that we saw all the Big 5, he took us on a bush walk and pointed out many facts and features that one would miss from the landrover. The birdlife was excellent and again our ranger was able to identify the birds we saw and some we only heard!

    Suzie Mann, October 2008
  • They are more than wonderful and Klaus was happy to see the big five!!!!!

"The location of this lodge is spectacular with views over a nearby waterhole. We experienced a herd of about 20 elephants swimming and playing in the water, a really special experience!"
