overview

Located on the rim of the dramatic and breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, the Lodge offers magnificent views over the world’s largest intact and un-flooded caldera. The Crater is a place of rare natural wonders, from its miraculous terrain to the abundant fauna and flora it supports, it is more than worthy of its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge boasts architecture as impressive as its setting. While the structural style evokes traditional Maasai mud-and-stick manyatta (homesteads), the interiors and finishes are pure opulence. Chandelier-lit bathrooms, personal butler service and very fine dining give Ngorongoro Crater Lodge a richly deserved reputation for excellence.

The encircled grasslands of the Crater floor offer excellent game viewing year-round with 25,000 large mammals, including black rhino, zebra and eland, and Africa’s densest population of lion. The rainforests of the Crater wall are home to elephant, buffalo, leopard and cheetah making for spectacular game viewing.

  • The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge was the most posh and luxurious of all of our lodges. The views were grand and the accommodations were beyond our expectations - special, unique and well-appointed.

    Debbie Ross, September 2010
  • Ngongorogo Crater Lodge was everything we'd expected - magnificent! The view over the crater and our 'mud huts' were just to die for. The staff packed a picnic lunch for us for our day in the crater, which was the best day of our trip and a wonderful way to end our safari.

    Jennifer Compton, April 2010
  • The rooms were great, the service was top notch and the food was outstanding.

    Greg Cervelli, April 2009
  • The crater of Norongoro was impressive by it mere size and morphology and the change of microclimate from close to rain forest on the slopes and edge of the crater to normal dry savanna down in the crater bottom 600m deeper. Also the large flocks of zebras, wilderbeasts and elefants were impressive. Here we also saw our only sighting of the black rhino and a lot of hippos having fun in some water holes.

    Jens-Ole Koch, December 2008
  • The best accommodations were Ngorogoro crater, simply amazing. The crater was also the best game viewing of the trip.

    John Kollar, October 2008
