overview

Hog Hollow Country Lodge is situated in a private nature reserve, with views of the surrounding valleys and Tsitsikamma Mountains. The lodge is situated alongside a central dam, creating a private oasis on the edge of an indigenous forest.

Relax by the pool overlooking the Matjes River Gorge, or stroll along the forest's walking trails to see the elephants at the Knysna Elephant Park. Keurbooms Beach and Nature's Valley are just a short drive from the lodge. Book a boat ride out to sea, and get close to the whales and dolphins that visit this coastline. Whales calve in the area between July and September, while the dolphins play here all year round.

Traveller Reviews

  • Hog Hollow, a warm welcome was extended there again and we enjoyed a lovely communal dinner with the other guests, it came as a nice change to here about everyone elses travels.

  • Hog Hollow was fabulous!

    Femi Faminu, October 2011
  • Hog Hollow’s staff service was probably the best I have experienced including some fairly highly rated 5 star hotels that I have been to. Rooms were very nice in a beautiful setting and a great location overall to access many sights and activities. It is absolutely FANTASTIC. Lovely rooms, incredible service, excellent food, nice pool area. Good base to see all the sights and activities that the Knysna/Plettenberg area has to offer. Nothing was too much trouble - they even washed our car without us asking!

  • The accommodation and setting were magnificent and we enjoyed having dinner on the deck and lounging in the hammock. We went to the local market and to Plettemberg Bay and to Knysna and enjoyed each .

    Dave Thomas, April 2009
  • Hogs Hollow is absolutely lovely, the location, the rooms, the food is fantastic and the hospitality and service the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend Hog Hollow to anyone. Joe had hot milk and a gingerbread man by his bed when we retired and reading books for his age group. For a hotel who aren't mad on children he was treated so well. There is so much to see in that area we could have done with another few nights. Not a place for people who don't like monkeys they often stole breakfast off the tables which we found great fun but might firghten others.

    Sue Tomlinson, November 2008
  • The place we liked most was Hog Hollow - The gastronomy was not at the same level as everywhere else in the country.

    Helene Weber, November 2008
  • They were absolutely superb. I felt so spoiled!

    Kaarina Meyer, September 2008
  • This was our favourite. It's a stunning place and we were ready for pampering service. The location was close enough to Plettenberg Bay and even Knysna for a bit more activity but we were happy to putter around. One more night would have been fantastic but maybe it was best for our stomachs - the food was fab and we started to feel the weight gain!

    Katrina Stagner, April 2008
  • The lodge is very cool and I think we would have enjoyed another day there. We went whale watching and to several wildlife reserves and really liked the accommodations and communal dining.

    Joel Pelavin, April 2008
  • We were so pleasantly surprised to see how special Hog Hollow was, that we wished we had arrived earlier in the day, the service at this establishment is absolutely second to none! What a hidden gem!

    Wanda Porteous, April 2008
