overview

Originally built in the 1920s, White Elephant Game Lodge captures the history and romance of the colonial era of safaris. Set in Pongola Game Reserve – the second oldest game reserve in the world - in Kwazulu-Natal, the sweeping views and tranquil setting provide the venue for a unique African experience.

Wildlife species found in the reserve include giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, hyena, buffalo, rhino and leopard, while the number of recorded species of birdlife exceeds 350. To gain some insight into the local customs, visit the Dumazulu Cultural Village, or go on a guided cultural tour where you can also visit the Zulu chiefs and herbal doctors. Head out on a boat cruise on Lake Jozini, where you can try your luck at Tiger fishing with the help of the fishing expert.

Traveller Reviews

  • The lodge is unique for its lodging house and dining there was unforgettably good. People there were all kind and respectable. The only regrettable thing was that we could not see any lion nor elephant. The person in charge told us that there is no lion but elephant in summer. While we could not see many animals there, the people were very good and meal was wonderful. We would like revisit there.

  • The 'tented' rooms were great and the service was superb. Enjoyed the safaris too and the Lake Jozini trip was stunning.
