Originally built in the 1920s, White Elephant Game Lodge captures the history and romance of the colonial era of safaris. Set in Pongola Game Reserve – the second oldest game reserve in the world - in Kwazulu-Natal, the sweeping views and tranquil setting provide the venue for a unique African experience.
Wildlife species found in the reserve include giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, hyena, buffalo, rhino and leopard, while the number of recorded species of birdlife exceeds 350. To gain some insight into the local customs, visit the Dumazulu Cultural Village, or go on a guided cultural tour where you can also visit the Zulu chiefs and herbal doctors. Head out on a boat cruise on Lake Jozini, where you can try your luck at Tiger fishing with the help of the fishing expert.
Since the lodge is set inside a well established game reserve, you can watch wildlife from the hide at the lodge or journey into the bush on a game drive or a bush walk with one of the lodge's professional guides.
Cycling safaris offer a different way to explore the African bush.
