overview

Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountain range and overlooking the infamous battlefield of Spioenkop, Three Tree Hill Lodge was opened to coincide with the centenary of the Anglo Boer War. Set on the former site of a British military headquarters, the lodge has been constructed mainly from wood and iron to resemble the housing kits that were brought out from Britain in the 19th century.

It is of course the amazing story of the Battle of Spioenkop in 1900 that will be the focal point of your stay; guests will enjoy an introductory talk on the origins of the Boer War and the Natal campaign. Explore the other battlefields in the region with the lodge's expert guide or take a guided walk, horse ride, or mountain biking excursion into the foothills of the Drakensberg. The nearby Spioenkop Game Reserve affords guests the chance to spot a range of animals that includes rhino, giraffe and zebra.
