Enjoy a classic tented safari experience at the exclusive Ngala Tented Camp, which is set on the banks of the seasonal Timbavati River close to Orpen Gate, one of the major gateways into the world-famous Kruger National Park.

Renowned for its exceptional Big 5 game viewing, Ngala Tented Camp offers twice-daily game drives in 4x4 safari vehicles as well as exciting evening night drives, sensitive off-roading and guided bush walks. Activities are led by experienced and knowledgeable guides who will introduce you to the natural wonders of this exclusive private game reserve, which is home to breeding herds of buffalo, elephant and giraffe as well as predators like leopard, spotted hyena and wild dog. 'Ngala' means 'lion' in the local Shangaan language, and the reserve supports several active prides.

In addition to superb game viewing across its 14 700 exclusive-use and unfenced hectares, Ngala Tented Camp has many little extras that set it apart, such as romantic dinners in the riverbed, Wi-Fi, a contoured lap pool and secluded open-air massage sala overlooking the seasonal Timbavati River.

Traveller Reviews

  • Ngala Tented Camp was fantastic for game viewing and the bush dinner on the last night was amazing.

    Ilana Mycock, February 2016
  • Ngala was worth every penny, from the incredible service to the game drives to the food and everything in between.

    Sam Steinhardt, December 2015
  • All the staff at Ngala were very friendly and helpful and tried their best to make you feel welcome. The meals were delicious. Breakfast and lunch were sometimes served by the pool which was nice as you passed by the resident Nyala and Bushbuck on the way to the pool and on one occasion, a small herd of elephants joined us for a drink at the pool! Our Ranger, Lee-Anne was very knowledgeable, great fun and had a lovely sense of humour. We enjoyed all our game drives and were fortunate to see some wonderful sightings.

    Simon Warner, May 2015
  • Ngala tented camp was also great. Accommodation was good but lacked the private outside space for lying about. The food was delicious and the staff were so attentive, making sure everything was as we wanted it. Oscar, the chef, was a star. We have to specifically mention the ranger and tracker on our walking safari. Barney and Richard were truly professional. They instilled great confidence in us from the way they approached their job but there was still time for a laugh. They gave us some great sightings both on foot and mobile

    Tom Melaugh, March 2015
  • The game viewing at Ngala and the whole experience there were exemplary.

    Sean Heffron, February 2014
  • The trip was wonderful and went off without any problems at all. All of the reservations, transfers and accommodations were fantastic and we especially appreciated all of the personal attention and flourishes at the safari lodges. All of the personnel were exceedingly pleasant and helpful and took the time to get to know you.

    Kevin O'Neal, July 2013
  • We had an incredible time on our trip to South Africa. The combination of the World Cup and safari was perfect. The service was spectacular and the guides were very knowledgeable. Not to mention the lodge itself, which was beautiful!

    Guillermo Salcedo, July 2010
  • We had a great time at Ngala and we were very well looked after. Accommodation, food etc all very good. Expectations well met!

    Richard Holmes, August 2009
  • The tented camp was just what they had hoped it would be.

    Brandt Allen, September 2008
  • Beautiful tented camp, excellent cosy ambience, really nice people, but game viewing limited.
