Set on a 10-acre private estate, Ngong House is a unique and secluded home situated in the Nairobi district and close to the Ngong Hills. Ideally situated for excursions to many of Nairobi's top attractions, the lodge offers unusual tree-house accommodation in a rustic yet luxurious style. Guests at the Ngong House can visit Nairobi National Park, the Karen Blixen Museum and the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage while the popular Giraffe Centre (home to the endangered Rothchild's giraffe) is only a 20 minute walk away.

More intrepid guests can arrange to visit the exciting markets of downtown Nairobi. And after a busy day seeing the sights, start your evening at the lodge with sundowner drinks on your private tree-top veranda as you can watch the sun set over the Ngong Hills before heading off for a delicious dinner in the thatched rondavel.

Ngong House has its own boutique clothing shop located on the property with pieces ranging from period costume to modern creations.

Relax during the heat of the day in the lodge's large swimming pool or grab a book and a sun lounger and head for the shade of one of the garden's mature trees.

Dining

Ngong House is a culinary experience with tasty and healthy meals incorporating mostly local ingredients. Enjoy game dishes and fresh lake fish plus seafood flown in straight from the Indian Ocean, all complemented with a variety of fresh vegetables.

Lunch is served in the garden under one of the many shady indigenous trees while dinner is in a candlelit thatched rondavel featuring a huge fireplace to ward off the evening chill.

Standard Room

The main accommodation at the Ngong House comprises the six luxurious tree-houses but there is also a private cottage and a log cabin as well as a suite in the main house.

Although each tree-house is unique in its design - some have two levels with an upstairs bedroom and lower level living area - all are raised 15 feet from the ground to give you views of the distant Ngong Hills.

The interiors have a rustic feel yet are extremely comfortable with hand-woven rugs, bedcovers, lamps and stained glass created by local artisans. The en suite bathrooms are equipped with dual basins, separate shower, bath and toilet.

Other Room Types

There is a single-roomed en suite cottage that faces the swimming pool at Ngong House. Similar to the tree-houses, the cottage has a rustic feel with an accent on exposed wood, subtle colours and contemporary furnishings. The spacious bathroom is en suite with a large separate shower and bath, dual basins and toilet. There is a cosy veranda with two chairs for you to relax in the evening.

Built in a traditional style, Ngong's spacious log cabin will make you feel like you've stepped back in time with its rustic charm and woood and iron furnishings. Sit back and relax by the fireplace in the lounge as you have a drink from the open-plan bar. The upstairs bedroom has an en suite bathroom, a queen-sized bed and large windows for plenty of natural light. There is a veranda with a second sitting area. The suite inside the main building is a spacious single room accommodation with its own sitting area, fireplace and veranda.

  • Ngong House was perfect. What a gem, and a real home away from home. We didn't get to fully appreciate it the night of July 28, since again we arrived later (1.5 hours from the airport in god-awful traffic) and left at 6 AM. But when we stayed there on August 1,2 we felt as if we had come home. The host and staff went out of their way to give us charming, private seating for meals when there were other large parties, and as a change of pace had a lovely group dinner in an outbuilding for us when there were only 8 guests. The friendly staff and the beauty of the place were phenomenal. Service was outstanding, including a car and driver to take us shopping and a staff member to walk us to the Giraffe Center. I can't say enough about this and while all the food was good on vacation, this was maybe the best.
