overview

Situated within 140 acres of indigenous forest and playing host to resident heard of Rothschild giraffe, The Giraffe Manor offers an experience incomparable to any other. The building dates back to the 1930s and is modelled on a Scottish hunting lodge, creating a charming, yet luxurious place where animal lovers will enjoy every moment of giraffe interaction and forest exploration.

You'll find these friendly giraffes in the most unsuspecting places, like the breakfast table or your room window, vying for your attention and checking out what's on your plate. Relax on the veranda where you can hand feed these friendly long-necked beauties. Activities here include forest walks to see the variety of bird species and rare animals found here, visits to the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, and the Karen Blixen Museum. You can also set out to explore the bustling city of Nairobi a mere 20km away.

Dining

Breakfast is served in the sun room, where the enormous windows are flung open to welcome the giraffes as they poke in their long necks to see what's on our plate.

Dinner, on the other hand, is a much more elegant affair and you'll start your evening with drinks in the drawing room in front of a crackling fire. From here you can choose to enjoy your meal either by candlelight in the dramatic wood-panelled dining room or at your own table under the stars with the glow of lanterns and candles on the terrace.

Tuck into delicious home cooked meals that feature many traditional flavours and cuisine, but with a tasty, contemporary flair.

Standard Room

The design of the rooms is inspired by the manor's original 1930's decor and you'll find the old-world charm harmoniously combined with contemporary luxuries. The guesthouse consists of only six double bedrooms, keeping the atmosphere intimate and personal.

Each double bedroom is spacious and features a large 4-poster bed. Antique furnishings and striking art bring together the old and the modern for a cosy, inviting atmosphere.

Standard Room AMENITIES

  •
    Mosquito net
  •
    En-suite shower only

Other Room Types

The Karen Blixen suite is ideal for families as it has direct access to the courtyard which opens onto the giraffe sanctuary - a sure thrill for the children.

Traveller Reviews

  • We arrived at Giraffe Manor, and were immediately greeted with hot towels, drinks, and anything else that we needed. Our laundry was immediately taken from us, we were shown the property and our room. Both the entire property and our room were amazing. It was so comfortable, and beautiful. Our room was in the original main house, and had a view of the entire reserve, as well as a huge balcony, where you could see and feed the Giraffes from. You could also feed the Giraffes directly out of our bedroom windows (as we later found out). We were escorted to the Giraffe Center, and there we were educated about the Giraffes, which was a nice start to our stay. We then went back to Giraffe Manor, where we were greeted with drinks, and our first encounter with the Giraffes. The staff was amazing, and helped us feed the Giraffes right out of our hands. We had closer contact with the beautiful animals than we ever thought possible. It was amazing, we had so many great interactions with the Giraffes, and had the most amazing photos we could have taken. Every second was better and better. At dinner a private meal was prepared for us, and another great couple we met there. This was an incredible dinner in the original dining room. The next day we were up early to spend some time with the Giraffes. When we opened our blinds it was barely dusk, but the Giraffes were awake, and all standing right outside, just waiting for someone to feed them. They were the cutest things ever, just looking at out windows. They came over, and we fed them right out of our windows and balcony. We then when downstairs, where we sat at breakfast, while the Giraffes put their heads inside, necks all the way in. We were able to put our arms around them, while we fed them. We didn’t even care about eating ourselves. It was truly amazing, and the staff was perfect the entire time. They brought food, showed us how to act, and helped in an and every way they could. We were so sad to leave, we couldn’t imagine anything being this amazing!
