The magnificent Executive Suites have a granite-topped bar, a two-seater couch and an easy chair. The rooms comprise a king-size bed, a writing desk and a marble-topped coffee table plus Business Panel and direct dial telephones. The en suite bathrooms have a spa bath, a shower, a double basin vanity and a guest toilet.

The Minerva and Mercury Premier Suites have been designed for sumptuous in-room hospitality. There is a lounge, bar and entertainment area plus dining area, full kitchenette and a guest toilet. The bedroom has a king-size bed, walk-in dressing room and a bay window with views of the pool. In the bathroom there is a shower with spa jets and seat, a full spa bath, a double basin vanity and separate toilet. A Business Panel and direct dial telephones complete the deal.

The two majestic Presidential Suites - Livia's and Augustus - provide guests with the ultimate in accommodation at the hotel. They are gloriously spacious and feature king-size beds, a dining room, bar, lounge, butler kitchen, guest toilet and a bathroom that boasts a separate sauna, shower, spa bath, double vanity and bidet. There is also a Business Panel of electric and telecommunication points and direct dial telephones. Smoking and non-smoking rooms are available, as are two Special Assistance rooms with twin beds.

The D'Oreale Grande reminded us of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. We had our first game meal (ostrich, warthog, kudu) for dinner and it was delicious.

Last but not least, the last night stay at the D'Oreale Grande at Emperor's Palace was definitely worth the trip! What an elegant hotel! The casino was grand and when dinner came, we couldn't decide what to eat because of the amazing selection of restaurants all in one place! We went to Nelson Mandela House and visited the town and some museums. It was a very educative trip and some stories were very moving!

I can't say that staying at the D'Oreale Grande is very exiting in this remote suburb, but at least the hotel is good and it is convenient to come from or to go to the airport.

Regarding the D'Oreale the hotel was really good and the kids loved the "casino" for children and the restaurants. For us, it was not exactly our type of hotel because we like smaller hotels. But we do understand that it was near the airport and to entertain the kids was the best.

D'Oreale was also a good choice as it was so convenient for our airport connections - hard to imagine the actual physical location of the place when you are inside of it and on the grounds. We were pleasantly surprised that the cost of things for us was very reasonable. We got a late checkout (3pm) at D'oreale and the cost was about US$30. It was far better than leaving at 11pm when the plane departed at 7pm so that was a good outcome.

The hotel in JNB turned from comfortably adequate to absolutely fabulous, as they upgraded us to the 'Augustus' Grand Suite, which was truly grand. We ended up taking it in fully with a bath, Jacuzzi, sauna, and an 8 showerhead shower (all in suite). After a nice breakfast, we reluctantly headed back to the airport to begin our 'real' journey through Africa. Really nice and attentive staff all around.
