overview

On the eastern side of the Tarangire River stands Tarangire Sopa Lodge. The lodge is located in the Tarangire National Park and is one of Tanzania's most easily accessible conservation areas. The park is home to the largest concentration of elephants in Africa, and over 400 wild bird species, making it a birders' paradise.

Built to blend with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab trees and grasses of the Tarangire National Park. Constant water supplies create a lush green environment which contrasts with the stark and dry areas, and form concentrations of game, which can be viewed from the guest room balconies.

Traveller Reviews

  • Tarangire National Park and Sopa Tarangire. Our first Park and first sightings of REAL AFRICAN animals! First, we want to say that our Ranger Safari guide and driver, Hassan Marandu, was first rate. With 35 years of experience, he was excellent…he was easy to understand, readily volunteered information, answered questions well and was an expert on the animals, plant life and birds (including behaviors, habitats and biological names). We give him our highest recommendation and would without hesitation request him if we were to return. Our first game drive upon entering the Park was amazing…so we thought being newbies (…it all got even better in the following days). The following day surpassed the first. Tarangire was among our favorite, and very different from the other three Parks. The Sopa Tarangire Lodge was our least favorite. We had a bottom room, which could have contributed to our low rating as the room was dark and lacked a view. But, on the positive side, it was clean and functional. And, the public areas and pool were attractive and the staff was superb

  • In Tarangire the Sopa was a little gem. The staff were magnificent, the food lovely and the general ambience was great as was the location. I have to say that Tarangire stands out for me as a more pure and definitive bush experience and I would gladly return for an extended period.
