overview

Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is an exclusive upmarket lodge that could not be better situated; positioned on the banks of the beautiful Zambezi River within the wildlife-rich Mosi-oa-Tunya Park, Sussi & Chuma is only a short drive from the iconic Victoria Falls.

Named after the faithful companions who carried David Livingstone's body back to England, the lodge is part of the Sanctuary Retreat's Collection and consists of 12 elegant, air-conditioned tree forts built into the canopies of impressive ebony trees.

Inhale the wood-scented air while sitting beneath a towering tree, planning your daily activities with the host. Go on a game drive in search of the Big 5 or a walking safari with an expert guide to track rare white rhino. Meet friendly children from a nearby village, learn about the man behind the legend at the David Livingstone Museum, and glide down the Zambezi River on a gorgeous sunset boat cruise.

Likely to be at the top of your To Do List, the iconic Victoria Falls is only 20 minutes away - its spray and roar powerful enough to be seen and heard for 25 miles. Experience the impressive cascade of water as you stand on the bridge surrounded by spray, capturing the snapshot of a lifetime. Just be sure to take a waterproof camera! You may even witness a lunar rainbow, the result of light reflecting off the moon instead of the sun, combining with the moisture-laden air to create an unforgettable display of coloured light.

Experience a variety of adrenaline-spiked activities around the Falls: from white water rafting, bungee-jumping and micro-lighting in and over the roaring water, to setting your heart racing on the back of a gentle giant, 6ft in the air, on a truly original elephant back safari. When it's time to relax, head for the lodge’s swimming pool or the raised bar and lounge deck. For the ultimate in relaxation indulge in  pampering treatments in the midst of nature at the Safari Spa.

    David Klass, February 2011
  • With regards to the accomodations, all your recommendations were perfect! Our stay at Sussi & Chuma was like staying with family and Rachael, Simon and Junior made sure we were ready for all our activities on time, even so much as to arrange for breakfast at our treehouse so that we would not have to feel rushed by getting up early for the elephant safari. We fell in love with them and the rest of the staff at Sussi & Chuma.

    Barbara Diaz, October 2010
  • Sussi & Chuma simply outstanding and all the people (staff, managers) we met, well, we will just never forget them: so kind, always available, precise and attentive but unobtrusive.

    Cinzia Levati, June 2010
  • It was the right call to have 3 nights at the Sussi & Chuma Lodge, as by the time we arrived we had been travelling for about 20 hrs since leaving home in the UK. So by the time we had arrived we were very happy to have the remainder of this day just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings etc. For the following two days here we were then refreshed and happy to do all the activities that were offered. Having just two more nights was perfect as we did all that was on offer, and if we stayed any longer we would have either been repeating safari trips or sitting around in the sunshine. The staff here were extremely friendly, helpful and very attentive and we enjoyed the food, lodge and the location very much and you really could not ask for anymore. For the first two nights there was only one other couple staying which meant there were so many staff for so few people, and maybe this had an influence on the service we received. We also had our own guide for all the excursions on a one to one basis which was lovely and we struck up a good relationship with him, also it was nice to have him take us to border when we left the lodge to head to Chobe.
