overview

Few accommodations have such a grand entrance: Tsala's stone masonry entrance leads to a seemingly ancient African civilization, a set of impressive ruins in a magnificent forest location. It is of course however a modern and exclusive treetop lodge, set at the heart of South Africa's ever-poular Garden Route.

The lodge is situated in the Tsitsikamma Forest and you can enjoy beautiful nature walks in the area and explore the indigenous forest for a glimpse of its wildlife. Tsala Treetop Lodge is just a short drive away from Plettenberg Bay, where you can enjoy beautiful beaches and dine in great restaurants, as well as access the many other attractions of this famous region.

Traveller Reviews

  • It was not only a hotel but a real lodge and the room was absolutely beautiful. We've experienced a lot of bungalows during our previous trips, which were also generally opened on the outside, but this one was completely different with lots of glasses and very well done. I particularly appreciated that they provisionally booked some tables in surrounding restaurants for their guests. This is so basic, but not sure that many hotels think about doing it, so a very good point for them! Also when we asked them in the morning to do a fire in the room, we did not need to remind them in the evening, it was already done when we went back at the room. Same for the day after, even without asking for it! Honestly I was impressed by their sense of anticipation. Hotels paying attention to such details are becoming too rare. The managing staff was also very friendly and efficient to organize the day and book the activities. We ate at Hunter's country house and we had a wonderful evening there. The food was very nice, but we mainly enjoyed the cosy environment. I think that Tsala is most appropriate during hot summer when you can really enjoy the plunge pool and the balcony, whereas there is a more cosy feeling in staying at Hunter's during winter or when it's raining. Finally 3 nights were enough for us in Knysna but I would definitely recommend the Tsala and I really appreciated to be in a quiet environment in the forest.

  • The honeymoon was a blast, and South Africa was the absolute perfect place to go. We could not have chosen a better place to visit. We then moved on to Tsala, which was our dream come true. with a bottle of Champagne waiting, outdoor shower, roman bath tub, t.v., service, hospitality, remembering names, I mean, I could go on, and I fell in love with this place. I think I'll buy it for my wife :)

  • It was superb! Indoor and outside shower, great bathroom, comfortable lounge and bedroom. Add to this an infinity plunge pool and lovely views across the valley. Everyone was again helpful and friendly and we recieved good service. This produced had the best room of our stay.

  • Tsala Tree Tops - Again the design of the lodges and their location made this somewhere special. Unfortunately it rained for the first day; however, we fired up the clay wood burner in the evening and enjoyed the peace! The layout of the rooms really does make the most of the tree canopy and there was loads of space inside. The food was also excellent. We were also lucky to see and have a play with a load of the monkeys on the way back from breakfast!
