overview

Set on the lower slopes of Lion's Head in fashionable Camps Bay, one of Cape Town's premier city beaches, Camps Bay Retreat is a luxury boutique hotel offering a sanctuary for the mind and body in a tranquil, forested hideaway as well as spectacular views of Atlantic Ocean, Lion's Head and Table Mountain.

Indulge in the choice of treatments and massages available at the in-house spa, a list that includes a soak in the outdoor baths situated within the trees. You can also take a relaxing dip in the Retreat's rock mountain pool or work up an appetite on the tennis court, with a walk on one of the nature trails or on the beautiful beaches of Camps Bay or next-door Clifton. It's a short drive to Table Mountain, the city centre and the V&A Waterfront, and your location at Camps Bay means you're well-placed to access the rest of the Cape Peninsula.

Facilities

Enjoy a round of tennis at any time of the day on the Retreat's conveniently floodlit court - you can book a lesson or game from the resident tennis coach or pit your skills against your fellow guests.

Relax with a rejuvenating treatment at the in-house spa and wellness centre where you can also enjoy a soak in the outdoor baths or sit in the sauna.

Cool off on a warm, sunny day with a dip in one of the Retreat's three pools: there is the solar-heated pool near the Manor House, a pool by the Deck House, and a mountain pool in the garden.

For those days when staying in are in order, spend some time in one of the two lounges in the Manor House. Relax with a book in the quiet lounge or grab a DVD from the library: both have comfortable chairs, couches and a fireplace for those cooler days.

Breakfasts at Camps Bay Retreat consist of continental buffets and a la carte options while lunches are light and simple - perfect as a picnic in the Retreat's garden. Dinners usually feature the chef's modern take on classic gourmet dishes. The hot summer months see guests enjoying the Retreat's traditional South African barbeque (braai) which consists of salads, grilled meats and decadent desserts. Private dinner parties for small groups can also be organised in the main dining room, the guest lounge, on the Earl's Dyke veranda, or indeed in the wine cellar - a perfect venue for romantic dinners.

  • Camps Bay Retreat was my favourite place ever, jolly expensive but just idyllic and only a five minute walk into Camps Bay. Bit couply and lots of guests on SKI trips (spending the kids inheritance) ....well, that's what they were calling it hee hee.
