Hearty and nourishing, without ostentation or fussiness, the kitchen serves tender meat and fresh fish dishes, complemented with a tempting spread of salads and superb vegetarian options.

To balance such wholesomeness, a memorable selection of desserts and cheeses complete each feast. Meals are served in the comfortable, open-air dining area overlooking the hippo-filled river. By prior arrangement, guests may dine in the wild proper, taking breakfast, sundowners or dinner alongside the Talek River.

Traveller Reviews

  • Safari experience was amazing just like our first safari experience to Kruger. The camp manager George, the chef, the waiter Tom, the security guys especially Simon, the guide Vincent, every single member of the camp really made the experience so lovely and memorable. I cannot thank them enough. If I ever go back to Masai Mara - I will be staying here for sure.

    Somi Begum, October 2013
  • You lied to me. You told me Masai Mara would be amazing.... You didn't tell me it would be the most immense experience in my life though!!! WOW!! On behalf of my new fiancĂ© and I, can I just thank you so so so so sooooooooooooooo much for everything you done!! The whole thing from start to finish was unbelievable!! We seen just about everything! Lions, "honeymooning Lions", Elephants, Masai Giraffe, Buffallo, my favourite - Cheetah! A family of three, mother and two cubs, one boy one girl. We seen the beginning of the migration, the first couple of thousand. And Thompsons, Topi, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, Eland, Impalla, even a Rome Antellope! Nerubian and white backed Vultures! Jackals, warthogs, crocodiles... we even seen a white rhino! We seen two Bat-Eared Foxes running along infront of our hot air balloon. I kissed a Rotheschild giraffe!! Haha! The hot air balloon ride was awesome, then had champagne and fresh fruit for breakfast, then two game drives, and back to the lodge for showers then had our BBQ meal, waited on, with our table for two in a clearing of trees, stars above, full moon shing down and lanterns scattered all around. Went in with a girlfriend came out with a fiancĂ©!! The Maasai came and danced for us after that which was a surprise, we struggled to get pictures in the dark but Natalie recorded the sound of them singing, she listens to it most nights. I was even up there with them at one point, for the competition where the boys have to jump as high as they can to impress the girls. ...There was a lot of red wine (Or should I say Mvinyo Ekundu!?? Haha!) drunk that night in celebration, we friended up with a honeymooning couple so we had a good laugh too. We actually scored the "Brochure tent", #4, I wondered if you had any part in that? And there were hippos RIGHT outside our tent! Needless to say I didn't want to leave at all. I loved it. I'm happy and sad at the same time writing this cos I really could live there! lol. And although we never seen Leopards, Servals or Caracal's, it just means we have a really good reason to go back the the Mara Explorer and maybe try another camp too for a couple of days.

  • The accommodations were above standard. The tent and bathroom facilities were very clean, and aesthetically pleasing. The view from our tent overlooking the Talek River, including hippos, was exceptional. The food and staff were great. Our guide, Paul Kiroi, was excellent! The Mara Explorer is definitely worth a revisit!

  • The Mara Explorer camp was out of this world - pure luxury, but with a true safari experience. The food was amazing, as was the accommodation and the game drive guide.

    Jill Arnold, September 2008
  • That was the dream camp we had our hearts set on, decided we couldn't afford, but now agree that, as part of your package, it's fate and went for it! With just 10 tents AND the verandas AND the open to the night sky design of the tents, how could we say no?

    Dr Rosemary Hrinko, September 2008
  • A very good place. Excellent runned by Mariana, and a very serviceminded staff. Very good accomodation and perfectly placed in the Mara. Lots of animals (all of them).

    Mik Koehler, January 2008
