overview

Saruni Mara is located in a private conservancy bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve and is an ideal base from which to witness the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra through the region. Based on a close partnership with the local community and built in a hidden valley to exacting environmental standards, Saruni Mara is far removed from everyday life and designed to blend in with its dramatic surroundings.

This intimate lodge offers many opportunities to view African animals up close and is perfect for a romantics or adventurous honeymooners. Get up early in the mornings to go on guided game drives to exclusive, sole-use areas or join Maasai warriors on escorted bush walks and explore the nearby hills on foot. At the end of the day, relax in the Maasai Wellbeing Space, a private treatment spa hidden in the valley's olive and cedar forest.

Dining

Dining the African way is part of the Saruni experience: meals contain locally produced, organic products and the lodge chefs are always creating new and delicious combinations.

The Kuro House is the local meeting place where guests can share the day's stories and experiences after drinks around the fireplace.

Here, at a long dining table, a special dinner is served every evening but for a dining experience that is closer to the wild, you can enjoy an àl fresco bush dinner at a quiet spot under the stars while romantics will appreciate the opportunity to have a candlelit meal for two on a private veranda.

Classic Cottage

Comfort and a closeness to nature inspired the creation of Saruni's six private cottages, making a total of only 12 guests at the lodge at any time.

The views from the cottages, set in rolling hills, are sensational and to create a classic feel, rooms are warmly furnished with colonial antiques, Persian carpets and local African art pieces. Polished wooden floors complement the broad, cedar beds in each spacious bedroom while in each of the en suite bathrooms a canvas wall can be opened completely to offer an incredible yet private view for those taking a shower.

For those guests who want an even more intimate experience with Africa, Saruni Mara has a tented camp that is 10km from the lodge and brings you even closer to the action without compromising on comfort and service. Just three tents are available at Saruni Wild, one of which is a family tent.

Traveller Reviews

  • Really beautiful location, great food. There was no general manager there he was off but he was replaced by William who was professional and really nice. Our guide was good but seemed preoccupied the last day.. Maybe having a bad day I don't know.

  • Saruni Camp was by far the best experience. It's small and out of the way, so you know everyone who's there wanted to be there and they share your tastes and preferences. The cocktails before and after dinner allow you to get to know the others really well, and there's alway a few of the staff and Masai trackers that will join us for dinner, so it feels like a big family.

"Great option for a family learning holiday - learn first hand about bush skills, how to use a bow and arrow, tend to goats and learn all about the Masai culture."
