overview

Baines' Camp is a luxurious and intimate safari lodge on the southern edge of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Set in a private concession for sheer exclusivity, the camp sits under shady trees overlooking a large, perennial lagoon just off the Boro River. Guests at Baines' Camp are at the heart of the legendary Okavango Delta wildlife experience and will enjoy a variety of classic game viewing activities: morning, afternoon and early evening spotlit game drives are offered, as are canoe trips, walking safaris and motorboat excursions.

It's also a camp which is able to offer its guests an extraordinary and unique experience: the opportunity to go walking in the bush with three semi-habituated elephants and their handlers.

Facilities

Grab a refreshing drink from the bar and head to the main viewing deck that overlooks the lagoon and the swimming pool, complete with two salas. This part of the Okavango Delta is superb for game viewing and bird watching, which you can even do while you relax in the swimming pool or sip a drink on the deck.

But of course you'll explore the area further on guided walking safaris or on morning and afternoon 4X4 game drives - and the fact that Baines' Camp is located in a private concession means that you'll enjoy thrilling night drives as well. For the ultimate safari experience, you will be given the opportunity to spend a day and interact with three semi-habituated elephants as you join them in their daily foraging treks.

Baines' Camp also offers a range of water-based safaris. Excursions by mokoro (dug-out canoes) will give you the opportunity to discover the details of the teeming Okavango Delta environment close up, while motorboat trips will offer you a more exhilarating experience.

Traveller Reviews

  • Lari & Andre of Baines' Camp were so down to earth and friendly. The Elephant experience is something I would highly recommend to future clients.

  • Both the Stanley and Baines' camps were fantastic with Baines being over the top. Meals at both were top notch!

    John Rushford, September 2011
  • Very nice camp and accommodation, good wildlife and nice staff. We spent two out of the three nights with our bed out on the deck and it was a wonderful experience. It is to be noted that the unusually high amount of water in the delta made all transfers logistically complicated (as in driving on a Land Cruiser that would go underwater for more than half its height!).

    Maria Vittoria Beria, September 2010
  • The highlights of the trip for me were the game drives at Baine's camp. The staff was knowledgeable and we saw LOTS of wildlife (including leopard, lions with cubs, black rhino, hippos, etc).

    Melinda Hamway, June 2009
  • It was outstanding on all counts and you can recommend it to your new clients. The people, the animals and the nature can not be better.

    Soren Ellemann, November 2008
  • Nice facilities but just not as good as LV (Little Vumbura ). So glad we got to see the both of them.

    David Garcia, October 2008
  • Absolutely wonderful! - There again we couldnt fault a single thing! it was marvelous!! I'm not one to recommend places usually but two people in the office are travelling around next June/July and i have mentioned your company already to them, I would also go back to Baines. I think maybe two nights isnt enough - three would be better so you get two full days drives etc.
