Set in the shadow of Africa's iconic Mount Kilimanjaro on 190 acres of woodland, Amboseli Sopa Lodge offers the ideal location for adventurers setting out to climb the snow-capped peak and is also well-placed for Amboseli National Park, home to Maasai tribesmen and classic African wildlife.

Besides the postcard-perfect views of Mount Kilimanjaro, visitors can enjoy a wide range of African experiences from this traditional thatched-roof camp. Go on guided nature walks, visit the in-house cultural centre, go to nearby Maasai villages and view nightly wildlife feedings. You will have the opportunity to learn about Maasai traditions and gain an insight into their way of life - a rich cultural experience.

Facilities

Facilities at Amboseli Sopa Lodge include a gift shop, laundry, children's pool and baby sitting service though you may want to do nothing except gaze at the stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro from the comfort of the lodge's elegant living spaces, the swimming pool or from a shady corner in the cool gardens.

Lodge staff will be happy to assist you in arranging game drives, guided bush walks and hot-air balloon safaris as well as visits to local Maasai villages and markets.

Dining

Kibo restaurant at Amboseli Sopa Lodge serves a multi-ethnic combination of European, African and Asian dishes all made with fresh produce and served in the dining room or on the terrace.

Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style while dinner is a delicious four-course affair. Picnic lunch boxes are available for guests who are travelling or going on safari for the day.

The brightly decorated swimming pool snack bar - overlooking Mount Kilimanjaro - is available for those who want to relax during the day but for evening drinks most guests head for the lodge's two other bars which provide elegant and sophisticated socialising as well as traditional Maasai dancing on alternate nights.

Standard Suite

Amboseli Sopa Lodge consists of 83 air-conditioned and African-themed rooms which feature either king or queen-size beds, en suite bathrooms and a private veranda. Many rooms are interconnecting which makes for a good family option. Personal bars are available upon request.

Other Room Types

The elevated and very private Honeymoon Suite is a large and spacious room with a king-size bed and an ornamental fireplace that separates the bedroom from the lounge. A spacious veranda surrounds the suite, ideal for relaxing on in the early morning and evening when Mount Kilimanjaro can be viewed in its full glory. The suite also has a kitchenette. Two wheelchair-friendly rooms with king-size beds are also available.

  • The food as well as the variety was brilliant and I never had a bad meal.The service was really good in Kenya but exceptional in Tanzania, it was just little things but our waiters remembered all of our names from start to finish but it made us feel so special! Also in Tanzania we had far more contact with the Hotel managers who were interested in our trip and also giving us advice which was a nice touch.The only thing that i would criticise would be the location of the Sopa Amboseli being outside of the park, but the view made up for that.

  • The Amboseli Sopa was our favourite of the Sopa lodges. Though it is quite a way out of the park, its grounds were so lovely and our room was huge. We felt relaxed here and well cared for.

  • The Amboseli Sopa Lodge was a superb game lodge at which to start our safari and we really liked the manyatta inspired lodges and working around the hours when electricity was available. For us this added to the experience of being in Kenya as it added local flavour and certainly was no inconvenience at all. The staff at this lodge were so friendly and with it being lower season, took great pains to chat with us and teach us about so much of their region, food and culture. They gave us a wonderfully gentle introduction to the Masai world.
