overview

Lying just 30km south-east of Namibia’s capital of Windhoek, GocheGanas is a hilltop lodge that boasts uninterrupted views over a private reserve and offers an enchanting combination of nature, wildlife and wellness experiences. Feel rejuvenated breathing in lungfuls of crisp morning air while traversing the wilderness on a guided game drive or learn about the indigenous flora and fauna on a guided walk before exploring Stone Age caves. A vast array of beauty treatments are offered at the lodge’s world-class spa, which is a ‘must-do’ during your stay.

The architecture and decor incorporates local art and crafts in a celebration of Namibia’s rich culture. You wake each morning in your secluded thatched chalet to uninterrupted views of the surrounding reserve. After a full English breakfast, rest in the communal area of the lodge with its contemporary African design while you decide how to spend your day in the magnificent Namibian wilderness. Take a leisurely stroll to one of the nearby waterholes to watch the animals coming down to drink. Before lunch – enjoyed in Hilltop Restaurant adorned with vibrant African art – you join up with a knowledgeable guide for a tour of the Stone Age caves. The stone tools and pottery shards discovered here are around 9 000 years old and it is believed that the natural springs near the lodge may have made this area a resting place for ancient nomads millenia ago.

En route back to the lodge you stop at a scenic spot for sundowner drinks and snacks as another perfect day draws to a dramatic close. Make sure you do not leave GocheGanas without indulging in a beauty treatment at the state-of-the-art Wellness Village. A multiple award-winning facility, there is an assortment of special packages and wellness treatments available which range from outdoor massages and hydrotherapy, to detoxification and nutritional consultations.

Traveller Reviews

  • A good location but absolutely a disaster in every other respect. Room not cleaned properly, safe had been out of action for a month, staff not motivated, nobody seemed to be in charge. The dining room was shocking with food not covered. A buffet with very tough meat was on 2 nights out of 3. The worst pudding that I have seen in my life - peppermint fridge cake. I asked the manager to taste it but he declined. The game drive was the fastest we have ever been on-500 Dollars each for 8 people for 2 hours is not good. They were not busy and will be bankrupt unless they rectify the situation. In the dining room we asked for Sauvgnon Blanc which we had enjoyed the previous evening but they had only Chenin Blanc or Pinot Grigio - unbelievable.I do not know if a refund is possible but this would be justifiable as they did not match their brochure description I'm afraid it was disappointing. The situation again is wonderful, but sadly the staff are given little direction by management. Service in the restaurant was slow and the food mediocre to say the least, though the two bartenders were polite and good. the deputy manager had only been there two days and we didn't see the manager until the night before we left, and several people were letting him know what they thought! The rooms are looking tired and the servicing of the rooms very variable. The spa is lovely but the staff again seemed demoralised. I don't think the place will last very much longer unless it is turned around in the next year or so. Such a pity as the situation is stunning. It could be a 4 or 5 star establishment but everyone has to be willing to make it so. This was a bitter disappointment. Location and accommodation were superb but food and service was poor. It improved slightly after we consulted the Manager and Assistant but there was a distinct lack of direction and lack of leadership. The serving staff were very pleasant but not slick and no signs of training. We had a word with the Management and they took on board what we said and said it would be improved. We will probably never be back but thought you should know for future reference.

  • Unfortunately we couldn't make much use of the facilities in Goche Ganas, due to our late arrival from the airport after the trouble with Avis. The place was beautiful, but we were surprised to witness a member of the staff quarrelling loudly with a manager (including racial undertones).

  • This is a very nice place with good food and good treatments.

  • It was a great place as a first stop. The accommodation was excellent and there were lots of animals to see including Rhino. It was good to get going after the overnight flight but it wasn’t a long drive to do so we had all afternoon and evening to sample what was on offer at the lodge. Really nice rooms with good views. We didn’t bother with the Spa facilities but I would definitely recommend staying here it as it gave us a good experience of safari on our first day in Namibia.
