The clear blue waters of the bay are protected by a coral reef one kilometre from the shore, creating a perfect spot for swimming and snorkelling right on your doorstep. When you're not swimming in the tranquil water and lounging on the powdery, palm-lined beaches, you can also take the hotel's traditional wooden long boat to the deeper waters beyond the reef to go fishing for tuna, marlin, barracuda and king fish.Take day trips to Mnemba Atoll and Kizimkazi, each offering spectacular marine life.

The tranquil gardens that surround the sixteen beach-front Zanzibari cottages offer a beautiful place to go for a stroll and admire the natural vegetation of the bay.

Dining

The in-house chefs at Pongwe are incredibly accommodating and can easily cater for a range of different tastes and preferences. With seafood being the outstanding speciality on the island, you can tuck into scrumptious crab, king prawns and other delicious seafood dishes. Pongwe sources only the finest and freshest ingredients from local suppliers in order to support the local communities, while beef and wine are especially imported from South Africa in order to offer you the highest quality and variety.

Garden View Room

The hotel consists of only 16 cottages, all of which are tucked away in the gardens that frame the beach.

The cottages have a classic beach house feel, with thatched roofs made from woven palm leaves and traditional lime-washed walls. Each cottage is spacious and comfortable and furnished with locally sourced, handcrafted Zanzibari doors and beds.

The elegant en suite bathrooms feature Moroccan-style walk-in showers and the overall ambience of every cottage is simple and welcoming, but with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.
