overview

Ideal for families, Tuningi Safari Lodge is located in the malaria-free Madikwe Private Game Reserve and offers a traditional Big 5 African safari experience with style and comfort. The lodge is Fair Trade accredited and is one of the few lodges in the area that welcomes children to learn about the local wildlife and experience it first-hand.

Go on early morning and afternoon game drives to spot classic African wildlife as well as some of the continent's most endangered animals such as black rhino and African wild dog. Children can either accompany their parents on game drives or go on guided excursions to the nearest waterhole where they are encouraged to tick off the things they see in the workbook provided. Evenings are spent around a campfire sharing stories of the day's activities.

Dining

The boma at Tuningi Safari Lodge is ideal for a relaxing dining experience in the evenings around a blazing fire. The extravagant dinners are prepared by the lodge's executive chef and will satisfy all tastes, especially when accompanied by a fine wine selected from the lodge's cellar.

Families with children have the option of taking meals in their own room or deck, and on special evenings the kids can help to create their own meals in a separate boma.

Standard Suite

Tuningi's exclusivity is emphasised by the limited number of rooms, allowing a total of only 16 guests at the main lodge at any time. The design of the lodge is such that it can be divided for families, groups or VIPs to allow for utter privacy.

The main lodge offers spacious villas that are connected by wooden walkways. Soft, warm colours and wooden finishes give the rooms an elegant, organic feel with a comfortable interior. Traveller Reviews

  • Tuningi. Not without reason this is a five-star lodge! It was fabulous! HIGHLY recommend it to any of your clients. Cristo was our guide while there. We have never met anyone more excited and enthusiastic about what he does! His knowledge of all animals and birds was amazing. No matter what bird we saw, snake or animal, Cristo knew the names even of all the birds and all info on any bird or animal. Truly impressive.

  • We absolutely loved Tuningi. I would have stayed forever if I could! The staff were lovely and they were great with the kids. They both came on game drives with me but a couple of times the staff looked after Molly back at the lodge which was really good. The accommodation and food were outstanding.

    Helen Belcher, April 2008
  • Lodge exceeded our expectations! From the lodge deco to the service to the food - simply wonderful!

    Parveen Werner, April 2008
  • After the seven nights in Cape Town we flew to Madikwe. This was the most amazing experience for us all and we are totally indebted to you for recommending this. It was just like heaven. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more welcoming, our game driver was great fun and we saw the most amazing animals. We even saw a lion kill - four lions hunting a red hartebeest which we knew was very special because Johan, our game driver was even more excited about it than we were. We were lucky enough to see leopard as well as many other animals including all the Big Five. We even spotted black rhino as well as white rhino.
