The Last Word Franschhoek is a very touristy, charming hotel with a lovely and spacious room.
We voted this the best! The staff looked after us very well - a beautiful place and an excellent location.
It was beautiful very nicely decorated with lovely touches here and there - particularly the crème brulee and chocolate mousse left in our room in the evenings. The room was perfect for the 3 of us and the position of the hotel is ideal for easy access to restaurants and the hop on hop off wine bus! The staff were very welcoming and the ladies serving us at breakfast were extremely nice and wanted to please.
Our stay at the Last Word in Franschhoek was very quick, but they made a great impression. The location was perfect as we could walk to shops and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and they also went the extra mile to help us celebrate our anniversary.
In style, appearance and standard this was very much of a piece with Long Beach: small overall but spacious in all its elements, well-run and high quality. Again the visual and spatial impact was immediately welcoming. We appeared to have been upgraded from standard room to a room with private terrace and plunge pool – delightfully relaxing, though the hotel’s main pool area also looked very pleasant. The ‘Last Word’ group’s pitch of offering a refreshed concept of boutique accommodation seemed to us to ring true. Main positives: Wonderfully spacious room with delightful pool and terrace. Surprise ‘petals and candles’ presentation on second (final) evening on our return from local restaurant – not sure if this was Valentine’s night special or final night norm. Negatives? Really nothing material. The interaction with management here was a little more slick and polished and a little less conversational and easygoing than in Long Beach. But the service was never less than professional and there are no complaints whatever, just a slight drop in the ‘personal’ dimension that was strongly felt at Kommetjie. The breakfast buffet presentation seemed a little more tired than in Long Beach, albeit that we were never other than last to arrive. Our stay in Franschhoek unfortunately coincided with a couple of day’s mild tummy bug for Brianog. It meant we weren’t able to enjoy fully the wonderful food offered by the location, though we did enjoy lunch at La Petite Ferme and an enjoyable evening at The French Connection. I think though that we realised in any case that, were we organising our itinerary again, we would have happily had one extra day in Long Beach and the same in The Bay, and contented ourselves with motoring in and out of Franschhoek for a lazy lunch.
Nice, clean rooms. Friendly staff. Convenient locations to the main street to stroll along and buy souvenirs! Yummy breakfast.
