On the west coast of Mauritius and set in landscaped gardens filled with swaying coconut palms and frangipani trees, La Pirogue overlooks no less than a kilometre of white-sand beach and offers privacy, tranquility and romance. Adjacent to the postcard-perfect beach and close to restaurants and bars, the resort has everything you need close at hand - and if you've bought the family then you can enjoy it all while the kids are looked after and entertained by the professional team at the Sun Kids Club.

The expansive infinity swimming pool seems to merge with the Indian Ocean and is an ideal place to spend some time but it's easy to keep active with numerous complimentary watersports on offer during the day including windsurfing, kayaking and wind surfing; other activities include tennis or scuba dive lessons. You can also dance the night away to the resort’s band and enjoy the themed shows on various nights of the week.

Facilities

The magnificent swimming pool with its private coves, sunny islands and play areas overlooks the beach and is the focal point of the resort.

La Pirogue also offers an excellent spa and beauty centre as well as a gym, and golfers can perfect their swing on the nearby 18-hole, Gary Player-designed golf course.

Watersports offered free of charge include glass-bottomed boats, kayaks, laser sails, paddle boats, snorkelling equipment, wind surfing, sailing, aqua-gym and water polo. Big banana rides, tube rides, sunset cruises, big-game fishing, para sailing and water skiing are available at an additional cost.

Mauritius is of course a scuba diver's paradise and PADI courses are available for beginners as well as experienced divers.

Dining

La Pirogue offers a wide variety of dining options with an extensive choice of delicious cuisine. Thatches, the main restaurant, serves a delicious breakfast buffet and an extensive evening buffet as well as barbeques and themed evenings. Dine alfresco on the terrace or in the thatched pavilion.

The more romantic Paul & Virginie Restaurant is set next to the ocean and specialises in fresh seafood - smoked, grilled or steamed to order as well as crisp pizzas and colourful salads, ideal for a light tropical lunch.

There is also Citronella's Cafe, serving delicious Italian-inspired cuisine and of course, La Badiane, serving traditional Mauritian dishes in the evening.

Tides, located on the beachfront, allows you to choose their own seafood platter from the elaborate fresh fish and shellfish choices or indulge in some freshly prepared sushi or sashimi.

La Pirogue also offers a choice of bars next to the pool and the beach, serving cocktails and refreshments throughout the day.

Deluxe Room

All La Pirogue’s air-conditioned guest cottages are at ground level and open onto a peaceful palm grove and lush tropical gardens with a private sitting area. All have a rustic charm and are made from volcanic rock, wood and thatch, decorated in shades of coral and vanilla.

To wake up right on the beach, stay in one the more spacious Superior Rooms; alternatively, book one of the Royal Suites, complete with large lounge area and a beachfront location. Extra beds and inter-leading rooms are available to accommodate families with children.

  • We had an amazing time, it was honestly the best trip we have ever had to Mauritius and we will definitely be going back to La Pirogue. Nothing is too much trouble. The food was amazing - the extra 2 ins on our waistline is testament to this. I could go on and on but you get the jist - the only complaint I have is that it was NOT LONG ENOUGH and I would definitely go for the 10 day option.

  • For a lodge layout, it was very good and as we remembered it the last time we were there. The pool area was a great improvement from our last visit and the pool side restaurant was very good in location, food and value for money. The staff were not as friendly as at Le Mauricia and service was only ok.The food was exeptional and better than at Le Mauricia in terms of quality. A nice addition was a taxi rank just outside the premises of the hotel that provided easy access to the town that has mushroomed in Flic n Flac.

We had an amazing time, it was honestly the best trip we have ever had to Mauritius and we will definitely be going back to La Pirogue. Nothing is too much trouble.
