Joy’s Camp is an elegant tented camp located in the remote Shaba National Reserve. Situated on the site of Joy Adamson's original campsite, the camp overlooks a large natural spring, which acts as a watering hole, allowing for continuous game viewing.

Shaba National Reserve itself is rich with extraordinary wildlife; on game drives you have the opportunity of seeing varied species including Grevy's zebra, the Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, lesser kudu, leopard, plenty of lion and herds of elephant. Traveller Reviews

  • Joys Camp: The Shaba was beautiful. The landscape was incredible and we were able to I.D. over 40 species of birds. The camp itself is SPECTACULAR.... we were very impressed to learn that many staff members actually helped build this beautiful camp. The food and drink, staff, and of course, Sally & Karl, all exceeded our expectations. Even though we did not see as many large animals here, the Game drives were very rewarding because of the landscape, birds, and the species of animals that are indigenous to the area: Grevy's Zebras, Reticulated Giraffe, and the Gerenuk. In addition, it felt as if we were the only people in the Shaba!

  • We were the only guests at Joy's Camp for the two nights we were there so we were spoilt :) This was probably our favourite camp for its outlook with all the accommodations overlooking the spring fed area right outside the tents. The profusion of wildlife that came close and grazed as well as frolicked was a sight to behold. The dining area overlooked the same open area of greenery and the spotlight in the evening over the lawn like area was an added bonus. The accommodation was supremely comfortable.

  • Joy's Camp in Shaba is a very well-run and luxurious camp, with great staff. BY FAR had the best game life viewable from our tent and from the restaurant, with herds of elephant and buffalo just a few feet outside our tent, which we could even observe from the comfort of our bed. The weather, though, was extremely hot while we were there, making the afternoons somewhat difficult to tolerate. There certainly are a number of unique animals in the North of Kenya at Shaba, which are worth seeing and you cannot find at Mara or Amboseli, such as the reticulated giraffe, Somali Zebra, Gertneks, amazing birdlife and several others.
