overview

Under a two-hour drive from Cape Town, Cliff Lodge is an idyllic oceanfront retreat situated on cliffs above the whale-watching Mecca of Walker Bay. Close to popular Hermanus and offering dramatic views of Walker Bay and the distant Cape Peninsula, Cliff Lodge is a stylish yet relaxed and personalised Bed & Breakfast on the wildly dramatic Cape coast. The area offers a unique eco-experience: boat trips are available to see a variety of marine species, including whales (in season), great white sharks, Cape fur seals, dolphins and marine and shore birds.

You can keep your feet dry with a stroll along cliff-top paths through fascinating fynbos vegetation to secluded beaches or discover wine farms, golf courses, farm stalls and the charming coastal hamlets of the Overberg, a quiet rural region set in an intoxicating heath-scented landscape.

Traveller Reviews

  • Cliff Lodge had outstanding hospitality and service plus our room there has a balcony with the most amazing view of the ocean.

    Sonia Ng, October 2013
  • Cliff Lodge - Terrific! We got lucky with the weather for this one and saw whales and were able to take the walk along the dunes.

    Lorraine Gross, September 2012
  • Cliff Lodge looked very unpromising on arrival, a characterless area and a very suburban quietness. BUT the Ocean Suite was a great antidote to our room at the last lodge we stayed at and we loved the open aspect, the sea, the cliffs / shore which we walked along for hours. Gideon and Jill were very attentive and fantastically helpful in suggesting day trips to suit our interests and preferences and we absolutely loved the scenery we drove through, both coastal and inland mountains and farm areas. He lent us a bird book too. And on our last morning we saw a whale with calf :) A real bonus!

    Elizabeth de Friend, May 2012
  • Cliff Lodge was tremendous! The owner upgraded us to the top level suite and it was awesome - the views were breathtaking! The shark diving was very cool - got very close to some huge great whites!

    Jeffery Mote, February 2012
  • Cliff Lodge was a very good experience with very good hosts with lot of recommendations for excursions and places to eat.

    Teresa Badia, September 2011
  • Cliff Lodge was an especially inspired choice, the location was stunning, of course, but the warmth and hospitality of the hosts Gideon and Gill and their staff were equally exceptional.

    Bikramjit Ray, July 2010
  • Cliff House was pleasant and the hosts couldn't have been nicer. We enjoyed the views of the Ocean. They had made reservations at a little dining venue which caters to B & B guests which was a nice experience.

    Laurel Sherman, January 2010
  • We were given the bridal suite which is enormous and very well appointed, we could not fault Cliff Lodge. In every way possible, Gideon and Gill are exceptional hosts who really care about their guests. Breakfast was excellent - the only place in S.A where we had fresh orange juice [Ian's favourite, opens his eyes in the morning] Staff are very well trained. A wonderful experience.
