Deep in rugged and remote Damaraland lies Vingerklip Lodge, situated in a private reserve within an area of incredible rock formations and a surprisingly diverse cast of animals. Enjoy a warm Namibian welcome to this magical part of the world, a highlight of which is the leisurely walk from the lodge to the base of the imposing Ugab Vingerklip, a 30m high pillar of dolerite and limestone, carved over the millennia by relentless winds.

It's an area of great scenic beauty - the lapa at the main house is a great spot for the sunset - and there are many guided and self-guided walks and hikes on offer to take it all in. Afternoon and sunset drives plus excursions to famous Khoisan rock art sites complete the deal.

Facilities

The main lodge houses the reception area, a small curio shop, lapa bar, lounge and dining room with an open fireplace. There are also two swimming pools, a jacuzzi and the bungalows have their own balconies for private views.

Vingerklip Lodge is set in a 1 600ha private reserve with three waterholes scattered around the lodge - the main waterhole is floodlit at night.

These water sources attract a great deal of wildlife and visitors to Vingerklip may see giraffe, eland, zebra, kudu, gemsbok, springbok, impala, warthog, baboon and steenbok.

Dining

Wonderful, hearty cuisine, complemented by fine wines and locally brewed beer, is served at the main lodge in a spacious dining area in front of an open fireplace. The sophisticated Eagles Nest restaurant serves traditional African cuisine with a gourmet twist and is a ten-minute walk away, lying high above the lodge with a view that will have you in awe.

Standard Room

At Vingerklip Lodge there are eleven comfortable thatched double bungalows, eight of which have been suitable furnished for families and offer loft accommodation for two children.

All the rooms have en suite showers and a private terrace to complete the atmosphere of relaxation and tranquillity.

Other Room Types

The Heaven's Gate bungalow lies high above the lodge and has a genuinely breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. It is only accessible via a mountain walkway and 25m metal staircase. The idea of Heaven's Gate is to enjoy the soothing silence and warm feeling of perfect solitude on top of a mountain. It is the ultimate get-away-from-it-all accommodation and features a four-poster double bed and a private viewing deck.
