Rocktail Beach Camp's comfortable accommodation is located close to an incredibly beautiful and remote beach in KwaZulu Natal, the sort of beach where your footprints are likely to be the only ones. Tucked away in a coastal forest, you're sure to see a variety of bird species from the private balcony of your tented suite let alone when you head off on a forest trail.

Socialise around the large swimming pool which is located in the main area of the camp. Rocktail Dive Centre lies adjacent to the camp, enabling you to arrange excellent scuba diving and snorkelling trips where with luck you may spot whale sharks, turtles and manta rays. If you're feeling adventurous, explore the forest on one of the various forest walks which lead down to the shore. You can also enjoy a cultural visit to a sangoma (traditional healer) for an authentic African experience.

Facilities

The main camp consists of a large and comfortable lounge and bar area, a covered outdoor dining area and wrap-around wooden veranda that extends onto a raised viewing deck with beautiful views across the forest to the Indian Ocean.

There is also a wine cellar where you can choose the perfect accompaniment to your meal and a curio shop for gifts for those at home.

The large swimming pool is ideal for lazy days with a good book while if you've brought the family along, you'll be pleased to hear that there are plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied including a children’s playroom.

The PADI-accredited Dive Centre at the camp will organise exciting diving and snorkelling excursions and can also provide courses for beginner to advanced divers.

Dining

Rocktail Beach Camp offers delicious meals served on the large wrap-around veranda or next to the swimming pool.

Romantic meals on the viewing deck or under the African stars can easily be arranged.

Packed lunches will be provided on all-day excursions, ensuring that even your casual picnics on the beach are fresh and tasty.

Standard Room

Rocktail Beach Camp has 17 tented rooms with hardwood floors and glass sliding doors opening out onto a wrap-around balcony - a great spot to read a book or flip through a magazine, surrounded by the calls of forest birds. All of the rooms are en suite, with canvas walls creating an open feel to the indoor shower.

  • We enjoyed Rocktail Beach very much. The only thing about Rocktail beach is the rather long way to the beach. We think the vegetarian food could be improved (be more balanced and thought out). However, staff, guides and trips were fantastic.

  • The choices of accomodation were fantastic, i don't think we'll ever stay anywhere as nice again! I have to thank you also for recommending Rocktail, you were absolutley right to encourage us with that one. It was a bit of a pain to get to (it took us 5 hours) but definitley worth it. In our experience, places that are hard work to get to are always worth the effort! The service from staff were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble. The honeymoon tent was fab and was Phil's favourite and the diving was excellent.

  • I cannot fault one thing about our stay we had a fantastic time, the food was fantastic and staff were extremely friendly. One thing I really loved about the place was that tipping was very discrete. I found in a lot of places we stayed that everyone was waiting for a tip, but not Rocktail we never once felt this way and on leaving we had to ask where the tip box was as it was descretely put away. The manager was a great character and we had a few good nights with her, she made us feel very much at home.
