overview

Originally an American Consulate and later the premises of a famous Indian Ocean Trading Company, the Tembo House Hotel is an impressive historical building set right on the edge of the beach in Zanzibar's Stone Town. In addition to its historic interest, incorporating antique furniture and fittings, the hotel's location in the heart of Stone Town makes it an attractive option for holidaymakers to this part of Zanzibar.

Tembo House is ideally situated for those wishing to explore the historic sites and colourful markets of Stone Town - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also has a wonderful vantage onto the Stone Town seafront and visitors who want to make the most of the area's marine sports and boat excursions will be well placed to incorporate this into their stay. Alternately, spend lazy days beside the swimming pool or on one of the two sun decks.

Traveller Reviews

  • Tembo Hotel - great hotel, fabulous location so close to the old town streets, by the waterfront and with the beach right out front. Just gorgeous for watching sunset with a drink in hand! Lovely rooms and eating area, and very welcoming pool in the centre of it all.

    Danielle Heidtman, October 2013
  • Thoroughly enjoyed Stonetown and having the two nights there at Tembo House.

    Neil Burnell, April 2012
  • It was just perfect, lots of Zanzibar details and a great open air feel.

    Jenny Semmel, September 2008
  • Was a good hotel though I was only there one night so not much time to formulate an opinion of their service.
