Situated in the beautiful town of Shela, on Lamu Island, Shela House offers the ultimate in exclusive villa accommodation. Ideal for a family or group of friends, this house can easily accommodate 11 people and is ideally located for a quiet, seaside escape.

Relax on one of the two rooftops, soaking up the sun in a hammock, or sit in the baraza seating area, sharing drinks and stories with your friends. If you feel like exploring, you can enjoy a trip on a traditional dhow to the island's intriguing Takwa ruins. Shela House will also be happy to organise water sports, like windsurfing and sailing for you, or you can go on a guided, or self-guided, tour of Lamu town to learn about its fascinating history.

Facilities

The house has two rooftop sections, with hammocks and sun beds that offer beautiful views over Shela Village and the channel between Lamu and Manda Island and the second floor has a dayroom and terrace with spacious, social lounge areas and a small library with books for all ages.

The walled in garden creates a shaded space to relax with your friends or family.

An in-house masseuse will be on hand to give you a relaxing massage, using natural oils from indigenous Kenyan trees.

Dining

As the only occupants, you will be able to choose from a variety of dining locations. There is, however, an inner courtyard that has a dedicated dining area, edged by a baraza sitting area.

Chat to your private chef about the recommendations for every meal. Meals are prepared according to your tastes and you can expect to enjoy many traditional Swahili dishes as well as fantastic international favourites.

Shela House

The private villa offers five spacious en suite rooms. These rooms feature striking contrasts between the dark wood furniture and white bedding and mosquito nets.

Three of the elegantly appointed en suite rooms are double, one is fitted with two four-poster single beds, and the last is a smaller single room. There is also a nursery room adjacent to the main bedroom that features a cot and two children’s beds.
