overview

Set on the crater rim in an area rarely used by other vehicles but just five minutes from the entrance to the Ngorongoro Crater floor, Lemala Ngorongoro not only offers an intimate and secluded experience but delivers a great safari too. The communal areas have been designed to make you feel at home: lounge around on large sofas, choose a book from the book corner, or just admire the beauty of the area.

Guests are encouraged to dine communally with a nature expert and there'll be plenty to talk about: guests can experience amazing crater floor game viewing all year round in one of the best Big 5 reserves in East Africa. And after your drive, take a walk with a Maasai warrior in the forests that cover the rim of the crater to get stunning views and a chance to spot a different set of animals.

Traveller Reviews

  • Lemala in the Ngorongoro was perhaps the most rustic but also the most "bush feeling" being a mobile camp. Everything was so efficient for a truly bush camp we absolutely loved it.

    Paul Harris, September 2011
  • In truth, we really enjoyed the camping experience, because of the happy hours around the campfire before dinner. The happy hour gave us a chance to meet with other tourists, exchange stories with each other and enjoy a dinner together. We thought that the staff in each place were very friendly and helpful to us.

    Kathy Knaggs, January 2010

"The only mobile tented camp on the crater rim giving you that real 'bush feeling'! The heaters in the tents and the hot water bottle in the beds gives it a very homely feeling."
