A fully restored Indian Merchant House that was once home to Zanzibari Sultans, The Swahili House combines lavish traditional charm with modern comfort and facilities. Located in historic Stone Town, the hotel provides a central location for guests to walk to local markets, shops, restaurants and places of interest as well as a tranquil sanctuary to relax in at the end of a busy day.

The staff offer warm hospitality and will be happy to suggest activities in the area as well as providing you with a guide to show you around the sights of Stone Town or arrange activities that may be of interest to you: treat your senses on a spice tour, go on a Jozani Forest walking trail to spot red colobus monkeys, enjoy a snorkelling trip in Menai bay - home to bottlenose dolphins - or simply go for a rejuvenating massage.

Dining

Wake up hungry and enjoy a continental or full English breakfast buffet, served every morning from the rooftop kitchen. The breezy rooftop terrace is also where you will find the bar and where you can enjoy a tasty lunch and dinner with a great view. The restaurant's á la carte menu changes on a daily basis and is a fusion of Eastern and Western influences flavoured with local spices. The service is excellent and dishes include fresh fish and seafood, Mediterranean tapas and venision steaks. The rooftop bar is stocked with a wide range of imported wines and international spirits, and offers an extensive cocktail menu to accompany the Zanzibar sunset.

Deluxe Room

The Swahili House has 22 rooms spread over four floors and in three categories - Deluxe Rooms, Suites, and Sultan Suites.

All the rooms have been elegantly restored and decorated in a traditional Swahili style incorporating modern features such as air conditioning and a fan. The Deluxe Rooms feature either a double or two twin beds and have an open bathroom with shower and large bath.

Other Room Types

Though similar to the Deluxe Rooms with their amenities, the Suites are slight larger and some have a balcony. The largest rooms are the Sultan Suites which feature a private veranda as well as an open bathroom with shower and bath, air conditioning and fan - common to all rooms at the hotel.
