Located in Zimbabwe's flagship Hwange National Park, Little Makalolo is discreetly tucked away in a teak forest and overlooks a waterhole that sees a regular procession of animals coming down to drink. The focus here is firmly on wildlife: you will be urged to try the different viewing hides - including one overlooking the camp's waterhole - for great game and bird viewing as well as excellent photographic opportunities.

At Little Makalolo, your game viewing starts on your doorstep. Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4s and walks with an armed guide are all part of the experience, and you can expect to see large antelope herds, closely followed by their predators, as well as classic large game species such as elephant, giraffe and buffalo. Birdlife is also abundant in the area with over 400 species recorded.

Congregate around the campfire for a pre-dawn breakfast before your game drive and again for drinks - and perhaps stories from the day this time - in the evening.

There is also a refreshing swimming pool in the camp to cool off in between safari activities. The dining room and lounge at Little Makalolo are all built under canvas and overlook the teeming waterhole, making game viewing both easy and comfortable.

Wake up to a light and delicious breakfast before embarking on an early morning game drive.

Room Description

There are only six canvas and wood chalets dotted around camp to ensure an intimate safari feel.

Each tented suite features a day bed, a writing desk with a view and a shaded verandah. The en suite bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers, and one of the suites has a big outdoor tub for starlit baths.

Traveller Reviews

  • Little makalolo was wonderful. Our guide and his knowledge and expertise and personality meant we had a fantastic time. He worked so hard to find game for us and we had wonderful viewings of lions, owls, zebra and wildebeest and he found a group of elephants. It was a magical place. Wilderness air were also good.

  • We had the best of vacations, especially the kids. We saw the Big Five at Little Makalolo and the guide was the best ever.
