This little haven of tranquility and sophistication on the sea offers a classic boutique hotel experience with some added magic. Located in the heart of Lamu's old town on Lamu Island off the north Kenyan coast, this Swahili-inspired designer hotel comprises of two beautifully restored houses full of light, bright and inviting spaces.

Each house has its own living area that leads to a secluded courtyard and inviting plunge pool. You could forget about the world for a while or step out onto the streets of Lamu Town and admire the picturesque architecture. Every day holds an opportunity for relaxation or exploration: private dhows are available for ocean adventures - sail to nearby islands or simply enjoy the tropical sunset.

Facilities

The layout and facilities at Lamu House - such as the secluded swimming pools, private decks and terraces - are aimed at providing you with an authentic exclusive retreat and haven of comfort.

And the convenience doesn't end there: the Lamu House Beach Club lies on Manda Beach and offers a wealth of activities including kayaking, diving, wind surfing and water skiing.

Spa treatments and massages, deep-sea fishing and yoga sessions can also be arranged.

The private and very well-equipped dhows at Lamu House offer no fewer than 10 different excursions around the archipelago, and overnight camping trips are available on demand.

Sumptuous breakfasts are included in the room rate but lunch and dinner can be prepared according to your requirements: Lamu House's chefs will provide fresh, local culinary magic on a plate and serve it in the main house or on your private terrace under a canopy of stars. A range of beverages, beers, wine, cocktails and spirits is available.

Standard Room

The two individual villas at Lamu House have been designed to provide accommodation either as a complete unit or as individual rooms. Each house can accommodate up to twelve people in 5 bedrooms.

A unique tribute to Swahili design and featuring luxurious, contemporary furnishings, each suite opens out onto a courtyard and plunge pool and has an en suite bathroom, private terrace and a dressing area.

  • I would say for ourselves that at Lamu we would have had half board if possible because two 3 course meals a day were excessive, but excellent. I think it would be good for you to inform people about their involvement with their local village and school. The school needs children's story books and they would be so easy to take for visitors.
