As a member of the Preferred Boutique group the resort's personal "navigators" help you to organise an experience of a lifetime.

Essque Zalu Zanzibar is a perfect destination for families as it has a fantastic programme called Petit VIP - a child-centred experience. Your kids will enjoy an array of extraordinary activities ranging from magic tricks to jewellery, candle and chocolate making. They will also be introduced to the local cultures and traditions of Zanzibar.

While the kids are occupied, take a morning yoga class or lounge by the large infinity pool.

You may want to wander through the art gallery that features works from local and regional artists.

Rejuvenate your senses at the Spa and be sure to try the resort's signature treatment - the Kneipp Walk - or hit the gym if you are feeling active.

Dining

Each offering a memorable dining experience, the three fantastic restaurants at Essque Zalu ensure that all tastes are catered for.

The Market Kitchen is a modern restaurant that serves a wide variety of fresh, local and organic fare like crisp salads, cured meats, fresh seafood, cheeses and scrumptious desserts.

The A la Carte restaurant is a fine-dining eatery; try the chef's creative 'Signature Plate' or a char-grilled prime South African beef steak.

At The Jetty you will enjoy unique alfresco dining at the restaurant positioned on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Watch the sun set in the distance over the crystal blue water and listen to soothing music while tucking into a plate of modern Arabic-themed cuisine.

After dinner, enjoy a delicious premium cognac and cigar or your favourite night cap at the 1506 Bar and Terrace. And for something different, experience the 'Dial a Chef' option one evening: a resident chef will come to your villa to cook up a decadent masterpiece for you to enjoy in the privacy of your terrace or balcony.

  • Essque Zalu Zanzibar is a very nice hotel with a wonderful manager ( Victoria ) but we in general did not really like Zanzibar. So there is no fault here, it's just the country environment, beach etc which was very under our expectations.
