• Location: Kenya, Masai Mara
  • Type of Accommodation: Tented Camp
  • Comfort Level: Comfortable

Encounter Mara is a luxury, tented camp located in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, which is part of Kenya's famous Masai Mara ecosystem. The design of the camp is eco-friendly and consists of a central lounge tent with a view over a salt-lick, and an outdoor relaxation area. Go on both day and night game drives in the Masai Mara, with the camp's own expertly trained and knowledgeable Maasai guides.

Depending on the time you choose to visit, you may also see the annual wildebeest migration in the Mara, although this area is great for year-round wildlife viewing and offers excellent Big 5 sightings. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy offers a high density of wildlife and a low density of other tourists, making for a truly memorable safari away from the crowds.

Traveller Reviews

  • The Encounter Camp was just perfect for us. The people and the staff are all so nice and welcoming! The tents are comfortable, the food is just amazing, and of course the drives were all incredible. Our guide, Nabala, was wonderful spotting animals and taking care of us. The balloon flight which was like a dream. In the Mara Reserve we were able to see a river crossing by the migrating wildebeest. What a show!

  • Encounter Mara is fantastic! A great first time safari experience. It was very comfortable and intimate. Everyone bent over backwards at all times to accommodate our schedule and preferences.

    Sharon Calhoun, October 2015
  • It was really terrific and staying in a small lodge in the Conservancy was a real bonus as all the Masai communities benefit directly with lease monies and employment of the Guides.

    Barbara Paroissien, September 2011
  • The Encounter Mara camp is very nice. Food was excellent. We were a bit disappointed by the individual tables at dinner time as we had enjoyed the group meals so much at Serengeti.
