overview

Limpopo is one of South Africa’s lushest provinces and is home to a diverse range of wildlife and at least 350 bird species. Kapama Private Game Reserve helps preserve this natural bounty and its Southern Camp has garnered an unshakable reputation for its contemporary suites, very spacious family rooms, private lap pools and exciting bush activities that range from safari walks and traditional game drives to elephant-back safaris, hot-air balloon rides and interaction with a family of habituated elephants.

Guests have 13 000ha of pristine bush to explore, with the Klaserie Dam lying in the south of Kapama Reserve. Easily reached by flying to nearby Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport, Kapama Southern Camp has a range of accommodation options, from honeymooners who will be thrilled by having romantic fireplaces and outdoors showers all to themselves, to families where the children have a very comfortable bedroom to share. If you prefer to leave four walls behind for the night, enjoy a sleep-out under the stars with a 5-course dinner on an animal-proof raised platform, the tranquil sounds of the African night surrounding you…

The Kapama Wellness Centre allows guest to revel in lavish treatments – like the signature 4-hour Marula Miracle Moments - in one of the six private rooms. At night, settle in at the traditional outdoor boma, a bottle of fine South African wine chosen from the fine estate collection housed in the elegant glass cellar.

Facilities

Kapama Southern Camp has a traditional boma and a large pool deck with an adjacent bar to pass sunny Limpopo afternoons.

Guests have access to the Kapama Wellness Centre, which has six treatment rooms, a lap pool and a well-equipped mini gym. For total relaxation, indulge in one of the full-day treatment packages that include special moments like the Kapama Moor Rasul treatment, the Kapama Pinotage bliss treatment and marble handprint ritual, topped off with a celebratory glass of champagne or Amarula, a local liqueur brewed from indigenous marula fruit.

Massages utilise traditional African calabashes and rungu batons, while ear candling offers welcome relief for those suffering from jet lag or sinus problems.

The little ones are not forgotten at the Kapama Wellness Centre. Age-appropriate massages and fun nail art treatments can be enjoyed with an adult present. Guests can also have a lesson in African cosmetics, using the patterns and colours inspired by traditional African make-up.

The spa uses Dermologica, Healing Earth (local products made from indigenous ingredients) and Moor Spa products in all its treatments.

Dining

The friendly barman is always on hand to shake up a refreshing cocktail or two. Breakfast and lunch buffets are enjoyed in the open-sided dining room, which allows you to keep an eye on the surrounding treetops for inquisitive vervet monkeys or birds like hoopoes and African hornbills. The focal point of the dining room is no doubt the elegant glass wine cellar, which houses a fine cross-section of some of the best South African vintages.

Should the weather play along, the chefs will light great fires in the traditional outdoor boma and cook dinner right on the open flame, African-style.

Suite

There are 15 rooms at Kapama Southern Camp: 12 Luxury Suites and three Family Suites. All have air conditioning, large mini bars, beverage stations and private patios, as well as private lap pools, indoor and outdoor showers, espresso machines and cosy fireplaces that are open to both the en suite bathrooms and the living areas.

For something more adventurous, spend a night on the animal-proof sleep-out platform in the middle of the bush, complete with an en suite bathroom, 2-way radios and an emergency cellphone. Indulge in a 5-course dinner and then drift off under the Milky Way, the pale glow of dawn acting as your natural alarm clock…

  • Our accommodation was extraordinary. The room was awesome. We were all delighted. We enjoyed the walk on elephants! The safaris were great.

  • Kapama Southern Camp was by far our favorite. They had newly built half of their facilities and they were very luxurious and incredibly modern. Everyone there was very sweet and always trying to make our stay as special as possible. We truly want to go back to South Africa again and most certainly want to return to Kapama Southern Camp.

  • Kapama's pre-breakfast is the best with deli meats and cheese. The pastry chef at Kapama was excellent. There was always plenty of food at Kapama. Kapama had a good wine list, the others generally a white and red with the varietal varying). All accommodations were pretty much as pictured and nice. Kapama was great, they picked us up at the airport, the room was very nice and bug free. Check in was smooth. Met with the welcome drink, then we started our first Safari just an hour and a half after we arrived which was wonderful. 2 Safaris a day, included in the price, and these are the main reasons that you want to go there! In the winter one is at 6:30 a.m. and one at 4 p.m, 3 hours each. We took a trip to the Cheetah project at the Endangered Species Facility Kapama.

  • The trip was wonderful and we really enjoyed our stay at the Kapama camp and safari adventures. The room was absolutely wonderful and it met our needs totally. Lots of food and the people were very nice and friendly. The safari was absolutely the best. They made us feel very welcome.

  • Our trip to Kapama, Southern Camp, was truly exceptional. For you to choose Kapama and Hoedspruit airport for us was inspirational. We could not believe when we were picked up at Hoedspruit in the Safari vehicle and within 5 minutes we were in the reserve and virtually on a mini safari drive . In that 25mins it took to transfer from the airport to Kapama, Southern Camp Lodge we saw so many animals - all we could say was "wow" Southern Camp gave us that true African feeling and the Staff were just wonderful. They could not do enough for us and were on hand to meet all our needs. A truly wonderful experience that we will never forget.

  • We got there absolutely excited with the idea of our new experience, our first Safari. Entering the game reserve in our car we run across a group of lions…. and the adventure hadn't been commenced! The room was really beautiful. The place is outstanding: the pool, the common spaces absolutely perfect: luxurious but not pretentious. The choices of food were amazing: combining always some African specialties with other more international dishes. We were spoilt with the food… they served a tea with light refreshments before the game viewing in the afternoon etc.

  • A wonderful place to stay in. The hotel is very nice and the service was unbelievably above our expectations. They care about every detail of their guests's stay and everybody who works there is well prepared and make all the efforts to make the guest feel unique and special. We really loved the hotel and will recommend to everyone that wants to take a safari. Just one example of the outstanding service was on the last evening, when they prepared a surprise dinner outside, in a lovely place with a campfire. Everything was perfectly organized and at the end, all the restaurant staff, including the waiters, the maîtres and the cookers sang and dance African songs for all the guests. It was so beautiful that every time Gracila remembers this moment, she cries. Regarding to the room, it was very nice and comfort. All the services provided by the hotel were amazing and the food was fantastic. The Safari games were amazing and very much fun. We were able to see” the big 5” and our ranger (Bethuel) was very very good in explaining all the wild life facts.
