This urban-chic guesthouse boasts 12 elegant yet funky Victorian rooms that have stunning views across the bustling coastal neighbourhood of Sea Point in Cape Town. Conveniently located, Blackheath Lodge offers generous comfort and style with designer décor that speaks to the modern, sophisticated individual. The uniqueness of Africa is reflected in its mix of contemporary, Victorian and colonial-style furnishings with bright, quirky art and objet breathing fresh life into a building that dates back to 1890.

Ideal for the solo traveller or couples keen to unearth the Mother City’s treasure chest of experiences, this intimate B&B is the ideal base from which to discover Africa’s most-celebrated city. A short drive from your front door will take you to central Cape Town, the world-renowned V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain Cableway or the vibrant beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay.

Start your morning by making yourself comfortable on the sundeck for breakfast from where you will enjoy stunning views of the lodge’s well-kept garden with Table Mountain standing guard in the background. Set out for the day to explore the Mother City and, once back at the lodge, relive your memories in the lounge when you upload the photographs you snapped from atop Lion’s Head, on Greenmarket Square and at the Two Oceans Aquarium. That evening, sleep easy in your stylish abode and feel rested enough to set off early the following morning and once again discover all the delights the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town has to offer.

The guesthouse has a freeform, secluded swimming pool surrounded by comfortable loungers for soaking up the African sun. If you are still deciding how to spend your day in glorious Cape Town, enjoy freshly-brewed coffee and biscuits while making use of free Internet access for some ideas.

The lounge bar is popular, especially in the evenings when guests often gather for a glass of wine before heading out for dinner. Browse the drinks menu of the ‘honesty bar’, grab whatever you feel like and leave your money behind.

A laundry service will ensure you can keep wearing your best shirt and a reliable vehicle is available for hire from the guesthouse should you be without your own transport. If you have not bought a local SIM card, Blackheath Lodge will give you access to a complimentary mobile phone for the duration of your stay.

In the mornings, take your pick from fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, breads, delicious quiches and all the options of a full English and continental breakfast. Request a packed lunch to enjoy as a picnic in the Company’s Gardens or on top of Signal Hill. There is also restaurant at the lodge, where meals can be ordered in advance.

Standard Room

Standard rooms are air-conditioned, en suite, and individually decorated in a laidback, eclectic style. Glittering chandeliers, open fireplaces and antique dressers provide a touch of classic flair to an otherwise modern design. Bright colours stand out against cream and gold, and wingback Victorian chairs recline opposite flat-screen televisions.

You can request extra-length king-sized or twin beds, all of which have oversized headboards and are dressed in percale bed linen. If you feel like a break from the buzz of the city, spend a night in watching satellite television or choose a movie from the extensive DVD collection.

The Loft Suite boasts the most commanding views at Blackheath Lodge.

Traveller Reviews

  • The accommodations were exactly as expected and certainly suitable. The Blackheath B&B may be only 3* building but the attention to detail and service was 5*!
