Here are some frequently asked general questions, and our answers to them, about flying into and around Africa.
What are the weight restrictions when flying to Africa?
Weight restrictions vary between airlines, but here are some approximate figures depending on where you're flying from:
If you're flying from Europe, Asia, or Australia, you'll need to keep your total luggage weight below 20kg for Economy Class, 30kg for Business Class and 40kg for First Class.
If you're flying from the USA then you can bring two pieces of luggage. In Africa the weight concept applies - in total your luggage should weigh no more than 20kg in economy, and 30kg in business class.
What about weight restrictions on chartered flights around Africa?
Weight restrictions on chartered flights vary between chartered flight operators, but passengers are usually restricted to a single soft bag of maximum 15 kg.
Check with the operator, or with your Go2Africa consultant, to confirm the weight restrictions on a particular chartered flight.
Can I fly directly to Cape Town, or must I go via Johannesburg?
This depends on your airline and your point of departure. From London, Frankfurt or Amsterdam you can fly directly to Cape Town on South African Airways, Lufthansa, or KLM.
There are no flights from the USA directly to Cape Town.

KLM fly directly from Amsterdam to Nairobi and Kilimanjaro.
The only direct flights to Zanzibar originate in South Africa - with SAA and Air Tanzania.
How many times a week do these flights leave?
You'll have to check the schedule for each airline your interested in. Schedules are available on the internet, but should be used as a guideline only as airlines have the right to change these schedules without prior notice or any financial obligation.
Which airline offers the cheapest flights to East Africa?
British Airways or Kenya Airways generally offer the cheapest flights, but this depends where you are flying from and is also subject to seat availability.

This information is available when your booking is complete. Then you can check it at www.checkmytrip.com.
How will I receive my ticket?
Paper tickets will be included in a document pack, which will be sent to you by courier. You can view your ticket confirmation electronically at www.checkmytrip.com.
Can I reserve a particular seat?
You can make a request to the airline, and this will be catered to if possible. A firm allocation is not guaranteed, however.
What extras might I be required to pay?
In general all extras or taxes to be added on tickets are calculated beforehand and included in the ticket price. However, in some cases two charges are levied in addition to the ticket price and collected at the airport. These are a passenger service charge (PSC) or fuel surcharge, which ranges from US$10 to US$15; and an airport tax, imposed by governments worldwide, which costs about the same.
Information related to the actual flying time, aircraft types and stopovers en-route can be provided on request by your specialist vacation consultant.
