Lara Schenk - Welcome to my page!
I was born in Durban and decided to attend university in Cape Town. After 4 years Cape Town had stolen my heart and I decided to make the move permanent. Throughout the years I was lucky enough to be able to travel around South Africa and surrounds creating fond memories. This really ignited the beginning of my love for travel.
In my free time I enjoy cycling, art and of course shopping. I really enjoy trying new things (as most people do) but when I find something or somewhere I love I become hooked.
During school I found that I really enjoyed geography and this fuelled my passion for travel. I really enjoyed learning about the different countries and biomes around me and though that the best way to do this is by visiting them. I have spent time travelling around South Africa as I have always wanted to explore the country that I live in more.
Where have I travelled?
Growing up I have been fortunate to have spent time travelling to 7 of the 9 provinces in South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique. I am looking forward to visiting the Northern Cape and Free State this coming year. Each Province has special in one way or another and has something unique to offer visitors. I have also spent some amazing Christmases in London and York enjoying the history, art and of course the shopping.
My favourite travel moment
My favourite travel moment has to be at Phinda Forest Lodge. I decided to cool off in the pool and a few minutes later a large male elephant came to drink from the pool. It was such an amazing unexpected sighting.
What I love about Africa
I love the diversity that Africa offers to residents and visitors; the people, culture and setting just to name a few. There really is something for everyone, from the warm beaches in Mozambique, Drakensberg Mountain range in Natal, picturesque scenery in Cape Town and amazing wildlife in Kruger. This is just a segment of Africa - I can just imagine what else awaits.
Some African travel advice
As I just mentioned Africa has such a diverse offering for visitors. Try to make the most of your trip by including those that are most important to you and will make it memorable for you.
Where I'd love to go next
I would love to spend some time exploring Botswana and Namibia, the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park are definitely on my bucket list! Outside of Africa it has always been a dream of mine to visit France in the summer to watch the Tour De France, enjoy the beautiful scenery and enjoy some wine at a Château in the countryside.
