Ingrid van Wyk - Welcome to my profile!
I love to travel! There is nothing more exciting than to pack your bags and experience new destinations and meet amazing people. I am very fortunate to live in the most beautiful place in the world - Cape Town.
The best thing about living close to the beaches, Winelands and mountains is that there are always awesome places to explore. I love animals, a South African braai and hot summer days. My happy space is when I have my camera with me and just getting lost in the moment of taking photos of all the wonderful things and friends around me.
Where have I travelled
I am one of those extremely lucky individuals to have travelled in Southern and East Africa as part of my job. I was an overland guide for three years, travelling through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Kenya.
I've done my fair share of camping in those years and seen fantastic African sunsets, but still can't get enough. I've also had the chance to explore England, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.
My favourite travel moment
Full moon over Victoria Falls. When it is full moon, the entrance to Vic Falls stays open till after dark. It is quite spectacular to watch the moon rise over such an impressive mass of water. And if I can choose one more, it is sitting on the very edge of the Falls, peeping over to what is a very long drop to the bottom - it's not called the Devil's Pool for nothing...
What I love about Africa
Oh, there are so many things - once I get started, it's difficult to stop! Of course it is the amazing wildlife, incredible landscapes and fantastic people, but what I love most is the unexplained feeling you get when you see the vast open landscapes of the Namib Desert or the great plains of the Serengeti - it is thrilling, exciting, emotional...everything at once.
Some African travel advice
Come with an open mind and take in everything Africa has to offer. Be adventurous, explore and experience the smells, sights and sounds and above all, have the time of your life!
Where I'd love to go next
I'd love to go to Madagascar: I'd sail around on a yacht for a few days visiting the smaller islands and then explore the mainland.
