Monique Wilson - Welcome to my profile!
I was born in the 'City of Gold' - Johannesburg - but spent my school years growing up in the friendly city of Durban. It was only on arriving in Cape Town some 12 years ago for a short holiday that I realized that I'd finally 'arrived home'. And what an amazing and exciting 12 years it's been!
I'm passionate about people and animals and love being 'out and about' exploring all those magical wilderness areas and scenic attractions on offer both in and around Cape Town and beyond. I'm particularly keen on great food and wine so it's always a treat for me to spend a day with friends and family sampling award-winning wines and delicious cheeses at one of the many picturesque wineries located on our local wine routes.
Where have I travelled
My passion for being on the go and travelling as much and often as possible drives me and I'm so appreciative that I've had the opportunity to travel extensively within South Africa and up to Kruger eight times.
I've also been fortunate enough to have been on safari in Botswana on over four different occasions - this remote and exclusive safari destination is my ultimate favourite! I've also travelled around Kenya and Tanzania, lapped up the sun in both Mozambique and the Seychelles, and I'm lucky enough to say that I can also tick Victoria Falls from both the Zimbabwean and Zambian sides! Internationally I've also visited the USA, Mexico and France.
What I love about Africa
Everyday I feel blessed that I'm able to combine my two loves of people and travel into my profession. I'm so happy to be able to share my love of our spectacular African wildlife and wilderness, shorelines and cosmopolitan cities and people - not forgetting the most splendid sunsets I think anywhere in the world!
My favourite travel moment
It's truly amazing to hear how my favourite travel moment mirrors that of one of my clients, a traveller who wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of his corporate life and routine. Standing in the middle of Dead Vlei in Sossusvlei, Namibia: it's a pristine region of bright orange sand dunes and the only place I've ever experienced true silence.
It's these moments that I realize I'm creating dream experiences for my travellers, moments they will likely never forget as long as they live.
Some African travel advice
Just enjoy the sights, sounds and experiences of Africa without analyzing beyond what's required and bear in mind that the vast majority of Africa does run on 'African Time'!
Where I want to go next
I'm hoping to conquer the magical countries of Zambia and Namibia and beyond that, I'm keen to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trek in Bwindi, Uganda. Outside of Africa I'm really keen on ticking Thailand, Vietnam, Greece and Spain off my travel wishlist.
