Mary Keet - Welcome to my page!

About Me

I grew up in a village in the foothills of South Africa’s famous Drakensberg so a passion for our continent’s raw beauty was instilled in me from a young age. After moving from one World Heritage Site to another - Mkuze Game Reserve in the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park - a career helping others explore and appreciate Africa was a natural calling for me.

My passion for travel started with our annual family road trips from kwaZulu-Natal to the Western Cape. It's really not only about the destinations that you travel to: it's the whole journey and the things you get to experience along the way. I love good food, good company, campfires and a wide open sky!

Where I have travelled

My most recent trip to East Africa was captured in the first edition of Go2Africa's ezine, a digital magazine filled with great articles, stories and photographs. Download it here.
In 2015 I visited Victoria Falls and Chobe National Park - what an experience! Here are some photos from the trip with my colleague, Shelley.

I have travelled to nearly every corner of the country of my birth, South Africa. In sub-Saharan Africa I've been lucky enough to discover Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mauritius and the Seychelles.

Further afield I have travelled New Zealand, Canada, America, the Caribbean, Russia, western Europe, the UK and Scandinavia. I worked on a cruise liner for a few years so I was fortunate enough to travel to six continents and more than 40 countries!

My favourite travel moment

In November 2016 I visited Botswana and Zimbabwe where I had what was undoubtedly the most memorable safari experiences of my life that included phenomenal wildlife sightings like lions mating and an elephant casually strolling past my tent!

In September 2016 I honeymooned in the Seychelles islands, staying on Mahé and La Digue.

What I love about Africa

For me, Africa has a pull unlike any place I’ve been to - it's a melting pot of people, cultures and diverse landscapes. I believe that anyone that visits the continent's shores finds their own unique pulling point that will give them the overwhelming desire for a return trip.

Some African travel advice

Besides the smell of rain, billions of stars in an endless sky and wildlife in their natural habitats, embrace the feeling of just being in Africa. Leave your watch at home - you are on African Time now.

Read what our Travellers have to say

The South African tour was wonderful, the hotel in Pretoria very special, definitely we were looked after. The tour of the diamond mine we enjoyed very much. Our family have been involved in mining over the years, so of special interest, also the drive there and back gave us a good look around Pretoria. The Rovos train journey was much more comfortable thank you for the upgrade. With our accommodation, it worked well sharing with my brother. The meals were excellent probably put weight on in three days. An experience for sure, enjoyed the afternoon stop for the safari, amazed at the animals we saw enroute. Red carpet & local lads gave us a great welcome to Victoria Falls Hotel, our room lovely & comfortable, loved the era, felt as if I should be wearing 1940's clothing. The Falls tour was great, magnificent actually, what a site. My highlight actually was to have the ride on the large African elephants, these large animals are so well trained a credit to their team. Thank you for organising such a great week of firsts for us. You looked after all the details of this trip, no problems arose throughout.
