A classic barefoot, tree-climbing upbringing in rural Zimbabwe imbued Emma with a deep love for Africa and its sensations; mention the smell of rain hitting African dust and she quickly becomes misty-eyed. Armed with a degree in journalism Emma has travelled all over southern Africa, Europe and India (where she saw firsthand the application of her maxim for life: sometimes you are lucky, and sometimes you are not).
Indeed it is travel that inspires Emma to write - she has also worked in publishing and advertising - and she confesses to be an avid reader (though she is reluctant to admit a somewhat unnerving childhood obsession with Enid Blyton). "Reading is pure escapism” she explains "and a chance to return with knowledge”.
A lover of the open road and an itinerary unencumbered by set dates and places, fast-talking Emma is perhaps the antithesis of an overcast, drizzly Monday morning.
Our team of writers is sent into the field to experience and report back on real adventures.
Our writers are never expected to wax lyrical about accommodation, tours or what they find out there if it's not up to scratch. Far more valuable to us are their real-life experiences and recommendations that put you straight into the picture.
All our writers have experience of travelling in Africa. Some have worked, and still work, as safari guides - and their birding, wildlife and knowledge of Africa's wilderness areas is wide-ranging and at your disposal in the form of the articles they write.
We value our writers' experiences and opinions and we rely on them to create a guide that's of interest and relevance to our readers and clients.
